OK, so I had posted this over on the donate to the new paint job on Ryan's Alamo Liaison Squadron L-5 thread and got nuttin'. So here it goes again:

Can any of you recommed a thorough history of the Liaison Pilots in WWII?

I'm talking more of something that I would be able to do research with (that is, thorough bibliography, with notes to references, etc.). I've read the book which came as part of the donation (which you should do) - Box Seat Over He** - and it was great, but it was primarily cool war stories. There weren't really any notes/references about where to find more cool liaison history books.

So I leave it up to the infinite knowledge of the WIX Internet Illuminati to provide me with an answer.

Thanks in advance!

track down Jim Beasley or Rich Palmer. They've got a super-cool book about Liason pilots in the hangar, but I can't recall the name of it.

Off the top of my head I can't think of one for WWII, but I can for Korean Conflict. "Operation Grasshopper" by Dario Politella. It chronicles the history of Army Air Corps L-Birds just prior and and during that war. It is out of print but can be obtained if you look for it. I guess I'm kinda prejudiced as my Dad is mentioned several times in the book. But I think it is a good historical read. If I think of any for WWII I'l post again.

Thanks for the hints. Those led me to some intersting books on Amazon (thanks to the trust link at the top of the page)...and they were PRICE-Y! Let me tell ya!

Guess I'll just have to keep my eyes peeled at the airshow.

I've got a fairly decent selection on my shelf. Most are hard to come by and you will spend lots of money. One of the best is The Fighting Grasshoppers by Ken Wakefield.

Check out this page on my Lbirds website for links to various books from Amazon: http://lbirds.com/store.htm
