Hello Chris Kennedy:

Could this Bearcat conceiveably be the same A/C you submitted on Pg 2 of this thread?? My photo shows the registration as N-----00C and could be N7700C that you submitted. I took the photo at Torrance (CA) airport in 1958. BTW, welcome to being a WIX'er now.

Consolidated PBY-5A Catalina photographed at Orange County Airport (CA) circa 1958. Actually there were a number of PBY's (~ 10) freshly brought in from surplus purchases. The two in the foreground had fresh paint applied where the balance still had the original but faded paint of the Naval Air Reserve. The various base names on the tails were still evident (e.g. Key West, New York, Atlanta, et.al.). Why didn't I take more photos?? Oh yes, I rememnber now the sole security guard kept chasing me out of the area.

Thanks.

It could be the same, but I don't really have any information on it. The registry says Fornof owned it from "circa 1960" to 1971, so it's possible he might have owned it in 1958. There's a photo there of it in the later color scheme in 1964.

Karen, Ober, Lynn, any of you guys have photos of Doc's PBY from when it was based at Lancaster? I've had a heck of a time finding any and I only got to see it a few times before he sold it. I never seemed to be out there when he was around and had the hangar open.

Hard to believe that is SNA. Seemed like not long ago when i could look from the executive hangars all the way to the brand new UCI buildings!
The hangars in the background on both pics of N1203 are the old Shinn hangars. Mr. Randall had his Commander and Twin Bonanza in them, N40A sat outside between them, and later still they were sold off and erected on top of the Chino Hills where they can still be seen.
