When you don't have amphibs, you can take off and land from a grass strip with a little dew on the grass. No damage to the floats and much easier than disassembling the airplane to take it to the lake or vice versa.

Judging by the shadow cast from the improperly landed on dew airplane, I'd say he waited to late in the day. Ground looks to be dry and the guys pant legs aren't wet from the taller grass. His "Dew Calculator" must have malfunctioned!!

Land yes. Take off is usually on a trailer being towed.
According to the NTSB report, the Skyhawk on its back had just been purchased that day.

There was some awesome footage in that video. Really loved seeing Glacier Girl in formation with the two P-40's. Coulda swore it was 1942 again.

As I'm sure you know that is not damp grass, but it is the brand new tarmac runway on opening day. It is a demonstration (unintentional) of the dangerous severe wind shere at Wellington International Airport.
The next landing they did was the dangerous one, onto water with a big hastily patched hole in the hull.
