NO! The offer was not turned down. I was contacted by a member of the museum and asked if I could locate a B-24 because they were built at Willow Run. I spent numerous days researching and was able to locate a B-24 that bellied in during the war on it's way back from a bombing mission. The museum wanted a proposal from me as to a best case /worst case scenario as far as a cost to recover the plane. I had a few face to face meetings with people from the museum with which I shared some of the information that I had, where we discussed the recovery, what equipment we would need or allowed to have in the area, we covered just about everything. The people from the museum, while face to face, were adament about wanting me to lead the recovery with my crew and some of their people. After two weeks of not getting a phone call returned or an e-mail responded to, I had a thought that something was not right, with that I called the first individual from the museum that I had spoken with at his day job. I could tell he was a little stunned when he picked up the phone and I told him who I was, I asked him "is it true"? He replied "yes it is true and I don't agree with their(museum) decision to go behind your back and try to attempt the recovery". After I hung up with him, I immediately called the government offices that I had also submitted paperwork to, and the people at the government office said," we can see what they are up to (museum) so if you can redo the paperwork and resubmit it, we'll wait for it". I redid the paperwork and sent it off, the government offficials conducted a survey and the local folks had no objection to the plane being recovered. Then the government official said that if I had and could show that I had the funds needed to recover the aircraft that they would transfer ownership rights to me, but if I did not have the funds needed, the plane would stay where its at! To this day the plane is still there. Just goes to show that greed does not get anyone anywhere! I thank the government officials who could see what was going on, for leaving the plane where its at. I know that I have posted parts of this topic before on WIX, but after so many PM's I decided to post it again to hopefully answer everyones questions. This discussion is in no way an attempt to harrass, slander, defame, or insult anyone. It is more to cause shame and guilt for selfish greed. That B-24 could be halfway restored by now, this took place about 5 years ago. If anyone doubts this story, I still have the original proposal, the updated proposal, letters from the government officials, letters from my areas senators, congressmen who very interested in giving any assistance that they could to save the aircraft. Then after the knife in the back happened I had to contact them all and give MY THANKS to them and let them know that things didn't work out.
