While the escalator is not WWII original it IS US Navy original.
It was installed on several carriers under a program called SCB-27 during the late 40's and early 50's. It was made to help move flight crews to the flight deck.

OK, it's been about a week since my post challenging
WIXers to get involved as opposed to just being critical.
ROLL CALL folks. WHO has sent a check to USS Lexington
to help with the aircraft. Let's hear it..........
And while we are on the subject of direct action. Anyone
that wants to help get a SPAD to Mobile, I can hook you
up with the right folks.
Both are good causes. Both are tax deductable!
I've seen money raised here before.

I've done 7, count 'em SEVEN overnights on the Lex, each time we took a large contingent of Cub Scouts or Boy Scouts !
My personal gripe, the TA-4 is one of the few NEW aircraft delivered directly to the Blues, it was the primary 7 jet during the Skyhawk years. The lady who was, ( or maybe still is ),the curator said that there was no hard evidence that the jet was ever with the Blues, despite being supplied with clear photographic evidence to the contrary !

OK WIXers, it's been a week since I made the challenge to get
involved with a museum by volunteering or making a donation.
I used the LEX as a primary example because of all the recent
criticism. And I referenced getting a certain SPAD to Mobile.
I checked with my development office earlier. No one has contacted
them about a donation and referenced the WIX board. I've not
called Rocco at LEX, but I bet I know the answer.
So here's the deal....how is it that you criticise the honest sincere
efforts of others if you're not willing to get involved? How does
that work? Certainly I'm not painting everyone here with a broad
brush. Lot's of folks here volunteer and contribute. But there is
a small vocal group.....cowards......hypocrites. If you can't be
a part of the solution, keep your opinions to yourself.

Some of us donate, volunteer and contribute anonymously, does that count? (USS Hornet comes to mind for me)
There's also the offer below, has the Lex taken this up at all? I would certainly look into it if it's indeed a ligit offer.

I believe, in an earlier post, you said something about donating $500.00 for paint and about having materials donated. If you
live in NY, Intrepid is absolutely where you should be contributing
and I applaud your efforts.
I see you have an interest in B-29s. Next month FiFi is stopping
for a few days, selling rides, cockpit tours, etc. I contacted the
CAF, told them I was friends with some local reporters, and would
they like some TV coverage. All three local stations are going to
do run up retorts before they arrive and another report upon arrival. They sent me an image of a poster advertising FiFi. I
printed some out and distributed them around town. I'm not
getting paid for that. I believe and support what those folks
do. I don't believe in every decision they've ever made, but
support what they do.

While we (on here) might not respect or appreciate the Lex's attention to detail, I think we are losing track here on what's important. Would you rather that all those birds have met a smelter? Let's focus on what they are doing.
Look, I'm one of the biggest airplane geeks out there, and nothing grinds my gears more than authenticity. That being said, I think just about every warbird out there is "sporting" a different paint scheme all together than the one it originally wore or throughout it's history. When I went to the Lex, I did go for the planes. Did I care about what shade of "___" the "____" was? Really, no. The intent was to make it presentable for the general public. We likely represent the 3% of the population that can identify all of the aircraft aboard the Lex right now. Some could argue that some of the types on there never saw CV duty. Why not jump on that bandwagon and question that? Last I checked, the Concorde didn't land on barges in the Hudson either, nor a space shuttle for that matter. How about the A-12 on the Intrepid? Where's the outrage!? Last I checked, the Intrepid isn't a space museum.
By a show of hands (or pipping up on here), how many people on this thread that have chimed in have actually left DNA or at least a coat of paint to help preserve a warbird, or some sort of display for a museum? Pardon my being curt, but screw putting your money where your mouth is, while that is needed; they need people to put their time, something you can never fully put a value to, where their heart is. If this is this important to you to get your panties in a bunch over, get off of WIX, close your computer down, and fly into SAT or CRP and spend a week helping out.
