I stripped that red paint (along with many, many layers of filler) off that aeroplane in the late-1980s.

Two Bill Fornof aircraft at the Maryland National Air Races in Frederick in 1968. Both were later destroyed in fatal crashes.

Here are some more from the Maryland National Air Races in 1968. These are not very good photos, but you get the idea. The first two were also later involved in fatal crashes. The third one is now flying as Hurry Home Honey.

I don't know if this counts as a warbird or not. If not, feel free to zap it. The "Lyman Lake Special" in Phoenix in 1978.

Thanks for posting the pic of the Howard 500 but its was never military.

Well not in its Howard form, no--neither was the LAS Super 26 really an Invader any more; but Howard 250s started out as Lodestars, and 350s/500s as PV-1 Venturas.

Cool pics! Keep 'em coming!

Any idea what happened to that Ventura? The registry lists it as being owned by someone in Florida, but other than that I can't find any info.

That pic of the Skyraider at the Air Zoo is interesting. Note that there's just a "courtesy chain" marking the perimeter of the ramp, with a polite sign asking visitors to stay behind it. Now there's a ten-foot chain-link fence topped with barbed wire, and stern warnings of federal prosecution for tresspassers (that's an FAA thing..no knock against the Air Zoo.)
