Looking for good audio interviews of WWII pilots. Any links?

Sat Dec 31, 2011 7:00 pm

Hi all,
Does anyone know of any good audio links to interviews with WWII pilots discussing their war years? The other day I was listening to a podcast of a B24 pilot talking about escorting a battle damaged P38 home over the Pacific and it was absolutely riveting. Would like to find more tales like these. Thanks.

The EAA Timeless Voices archive is very interesting.

Thanks. I actually saw that link posted elsewhere, but the problem is I can't use it because I need something for an ipod (audio only, not video).

Hi mate

Have a look at this page of interviews for The WONZ Show. This is a new initiative by Dave Homewood (member here) who runs the Wings Over New Zealand forum.

Not all are WW2 pilots but lots of good listening.

Warbirdradio.com

Matt has done many WWII Pilot interviews. You can listen to the podcasts of all of the episodes.

Thanks all. Found a great one full of accounts:

It's on iTunes and FREE. I started listening to the one labeled "Jack Tueller" and it's about a P47 pilot that carried his trumpet with him on every flight.

I don't know if you're familiar with the Old Time Radio Network but here's the link. These are actual radio shows/plays from back in the 30's and 40's. Many are war related shows by famous voice actors. Of interest....there is a 1943 radio show (Radio show #151) related to a current search that is going on in Greenland. Great story of a B-17 crew's survival on the ice cap. I don't know if they can be download to an ipod.

The co-pilot of that B-17 in the radio show was LT Harry Spencer. Below is a website dedicated to him at the Irving, Texas library. Great pics and story there too. The story is 10 pages long.
