Went TAD to HC-1 at north island from HC-3 for a few weeks cause they needed a engine guy for a few weeks. I hate to say it but the H-3 was a good helo But the 46 could hover better and carry a biger load. No dis respect to the H-3 . look what the prince flys, A westland H-3. PAPPY

Well, gosh- I'd hope the H-46 did a better job at IT'S JOB!!!

While it's nice to know the NAVY got a bit of use outta those H-3s after they left the sub hunter role, VERTREP is not what they were designed for. It's even better to know that some (including one of 'my' old birds) are serving the Los Angeles Sherriff's Department to this day.

Thank goodness while I was in HS-17 the closest I saw to anything being slung under our birds was a sonar dome or a MAD bird. Well 'cept when we were doing SAR jumps or demos...

Later in life (at HSL-47, HS-8, and HCS-3) I saw lots of VERTREPn', but that was with H-60s.
I don't care who you are- that's some scarey stuff right there!!! :axe:
