I was just over in the shops. It wasn't over there. Anyone know where it went?

A flying C-131 would be VERY nice.

If you scroll about half way down there are pics of it being moved. You can see that whoever bought it took it apart as I am sure it will need a good bit of work to fly. I am not sure how a C-131 comes apart, but it doesn't appear to be cut. Also notice the attempt to cushion the move. So it at least will be a display aircraft. I wonder if this was because they recieved the other C-131?

My father's favorite plane....this coming from a guy who flew B-17s, C-47s, C-124s, YC-122s, C-82s,...
He flew VT-29s when they were sent to bases as "hacks" replacing C-47s.

Hope it has a good home. Convairs are anothoer of those types that we take for granted, but they're becoming thin on the ground.

Anyone have any idea why they would deaccession this one? I know they have the crazy two headed sim thing, but not a line flyer. Maybe they figured that was enough?

I like them too. There was a cargo outfit that used to still fly them into PIT once in a while. We used to get some cool airplanes over at the cargo area. Beech 18's, DC-3's, Convairs, and even a C-133 once.

Stangstung, I remember hearing a story about the airplane long ago and how they wanted a different one, but I can't say I remember all of the details. Personally I think it would have looked nice all polished up

Chris, just to clarify by "they" you mean the NMUSAF? If so where is the other one coming from?

Well they have that NC-131 over in R&D but it is hardly an example of a standard 131

That doesn't seem to bother the NMUSAF.
The VC-54 they have is hardly representative...same for the VC-118. Same with the Lockheed twin...the C-60 perhaps isn't the best choice to represent the many types (B-34, AT-28/29, AT-18s, etc) of Lockheed twins used. I guess it's a question of space.

Hint: they need to buy one of the C-54s for sale in the UK to represent a Berlin Airlift aircraft.

Still, they need a T-29 since it was the most numerous variant of the Convair propliner series in service and did the nav trainer role from the mid 50s to the early 70s.

I agree about the Berlin Airlift C-54! Also they did just get a Lockheed B-37 into the shop
