agreed.., they looked ominous as all heck.
Like all ‘huey’s’ I heard them loooooong before I saw them on the horizon.
Very, very cool looking aircraft.
Profile of the fuselage reminds me of the Tigercat. About a shoulder width and that is it.

Dec. 8, I saw one of those silver and day-glo orange S. African AT-6s flying out of 11R. I don't know whose it is, but it's a frequent visitor here. If they fly out on 16, they overfly my job. In on 16 or out on 34, over my house.

I'm only aware of one SAAF painted AT-6 that lives in Texas and that's the one at Gilmer.

CAP flyer, it could be possible that someone painted another a/c to look like the SAAF paint job. I've seen it here a few times and a friend asked me about it, saying he's seen it here. I think I have photos of it from a small fly-in here in '02.

Heard, then saw, a CF-18 blasting off out of Toronto Pearson this evening. By the time it was in view, the pilot had it in a near-knife edge right hand turn, heading North (ish). It was cool to see the twin red beacons flashing on top of the V-Stabs. I had my three-year-old with me so I said, "Look at the F-18!" (letters and numbers are the "in" thing with her right now). She saw the red beacons and said, "Look Daddy, I see lights", and we stood on the sidewalk and watched the Hornet tear off into the distance.

It may also be a SAAF bird. Like I said, the only one I know of. Doesn't mean I'm not aware of all of them. :axe:

Yep, I've been hanging out at Clover since Nixon won his first election. Doesn't quite look the same nowadays ..... although having "Tanker 59" sitting there is a definite improvement. 8)

Speaking of Clover.... About 3 yrs ago, I spotted a SAAF schemed T-6 in a hangar there. Mebbee it was just visiting?

No it lived there for several years. I believe it was sold and moved on a while back.

This past Saturday, Dec. 17, my Dad saw what he described as a DC-6 doing touch-'n-goes at Charlotte County Airport in Punta Gorda, FL. He was sitting in his car in a parking lot and he could see the airplane while it was in the downwind leg of the pattern. He didn't give me any other information. I sure wish I could have been there!

Driving home from Alliance Thursday night, I saw a slow moving A/C headed on final to Meachum Field, Ft. Worth, Texas. It was a foggy night and only as it passed over head I was able to see the blue exhaust for the C-47 Southern Cross and those stripes on the wing that Ober would approve of...
