That's just time marching on though. How many significant Civil War battles can you remember? Loaded question for this group perhaps, but I bet the average person on the street couldn't name a single one.
Depends on the family you grew up in...
Bein' a Southrun boy I can think of off the top of my head (With out going to Google and I'm sure I could name more...):
1st and 2nd Manassas
Winchester
The Valley Campaign
Fredericksburg
Harper's Ferry
Sharpsburg
Chancellorsville
Gettysburg
Vicksburg
Wilderness
Petersburg
Richmond
Atlanta
Pine Mountain
Shiloh
Galveston
If your family was involved and is also a family of honor and legacy I think it's more personal and you are more likely to remember. That's one of the interesting things about the WWII generation. So many did not even start talking about the war until it was nearly too late. My family knows their Civil War heritage thanks to the men passing down the stories and I intend to do the same.
