Yep, I've wondered about things like the just re broadcast 427 COBRA build. They went to a 'noted COBRA expert' in town, why not go to THE COBRA experts in town? Wouldn't they let them in @ the SHELBY factory located @ Las Vegas Motor Speedway about 8 miles North up I-15 from CIRCUS-CIRCUS Where SHELBY Mustangs and 'continuation' COBRAS are built?

Shelby can not sell complete cars due to the fact he does not have a manufacturing license. He builds the cars minus drivetrains. Than someone else puts the drivetrains in for the buyer.

The only reality show worth watching is "flying wild Alaska". History and Discovery channel have lost me as a regular viewer with their Nostradumas, spelling is intentional, all the conspiracy shows, the yelling and screaming of the crab, shrimp boaters, gold prospectors, Bermuda triangle, Japan triangle and all the other triangles filled with Bigfoot. I stopped watching Pawn Stars after their first year, and was recently told to watch the credits as it lists the "script writers". I gotta upgrade to get the Military Channel , but that includes about a million more Spanish channels. Wish we could all "cherry pick" what we want to watch and pay only for those channels.

"spelling is intentional"?

I'm weirdly fascinated, despite being sure I won't like the answer...

There was a "behind the show" thing done after the first or second season. They said that some of the "big stuff" was on the show for publicity of the owner and the crew (not because there was any serious buy desire), but most of it was real and the only thing they would do was compress the timeframe on some of the finds when they'd bring in experts as it would usually be a day or two after the item was brought in. Now, I suspect people bringing in "odd" stuff contact the guys ahead of time and everything is setup so it doesn't take as much time to make a deal or pass (and thus not waste people's time), but don't discount the idea of being on TV as a driving factor for people to take things like an L-39 to these guys. Even if you don't sell it, a lot of these things will be sold later because now the owner can say "As Seen on Pawn Stars".

I agree with what you said but I was saying that Rick and Chum passed on a wonderful opportunity for a ride. However I agree that Rick ultimately made a sound business decision on passing on the plane for fear it would bleed him dry. As a "picker" myself, if you can't "flip" it fairly quickly, you have to ask yourself if tying up the money is worth it in the long run. And as common sense would dictate, the higher the price tag, the longer it will take to "flip". Since Rick lacks the industry contacts in order to flip it quickly so his decision to pass was a good one.

Remember the one where they 'found' a gatling gun in a sporting goods store and eventually took it out to a range to fire it? A pal of mine knows the owner really well and told me the whole thing was set up, the gun was never for sale.

Yes, and I thought that gun was so cool.

The majority of the show is staged. There are numerous threads about it.
Here's one of the many, http://centraltendencies.com/2011/03/pa ... s-is-fake/

How could you doubt anything on TV? If it's written on WIX or televised, it must be true. You can go to bed safe at night knowing that if it's printed on WIX or somebody's made a well-researched, sensitive, caring, truth-will-not-be-barred TV show, it has to be true. It's to people like Ron Popeil, Ted Turner, certain contributors on WIX and the Pawn Stars that we owe our well-adjusted, iron-willed, forward-looking generation today.

You know the whole Pawn Stars thing was to say that they passed up on a ride of a lifetime.....Everyone who posted that it was fake missed the whole point. So it's fake, big deal. I'd have still taken the ride and I'd have passed on buying it (taking the scenerio at face value) had I been in Rick's position. That's it.
