I think it'd be fun to paint a Buchon as one of the Israeli Avia C.210s

There are several genuine ex-Israeli P-51Ds and Spitfire IXs around if you really like the scheme.

I'm sure I've seen it before and just not mentally processed it, but it's interesting how they've painted the near-Swastika on the tail.

Does anyone remember what the price was when she was initially put up for sale before going to Europe?

From memory a film production - I don't remember the title - required early model/high-back P-51s....so the only practical solution was to "kitbash" Buchons into P-51B(?)s!

I saw part of some cheesy low budget war movie that had some static Buchons painted up as Spitfires. You could almost see the hand of the guy holding the wingtip of the model in the "flying" shots.

I believe that was called "Eagles Over London"...kind of a low-budget Italian movie from the late '60's, early '70's. And yes, the Buchons were in British markings, and the Spits were wearing swastikas. When one of the planes went into a spin, the whole screen was rotated around and around.

Messer-stangs!

The 2 surviving of the 3 Messer-stangs had a 2 years break at Siegerland Airport (refitted as Buchons with German markings) together with a Casa 2-111. During an exhibition at near Siegen city to promote the German release of "Battle of Britain" a 13 years old redvanner had the great opportunity to sit in a real fighter! As no one wanted those old a/c, one was donated to a German technical University, the other one sold for 6.000 DM to Doug Champlin. If I had known the low asking price I might have been able to persuade my dad to buy one - a far cry from the 2.000 000 € for the above ex- Kindsvater Buchon, it would have been 3.000 € or roughly 4.000 $.

Michael

P.S.: I am in no way whatsoever meaning to compare the condition of the 1970´ish Buchons to the newly revised one. Many people spent lots of time and money to get the nowadays flying ones to where they are. No disrespect or disrecognisation of efforts intended by the above!
