The Hobby vintage firetruck dude?

That is the guy. I'm an antique fire truck nut as well.

I called him up one time and asked if he was looking for any antique truck parts. I told him about this guy in Kingsbury who restored/replicated WW1 and antique aircraft who had some old vehicle stuff as well. He mentioned the Zeppelin ladder in the conversation and wondered if there would be any interest. I gave him Roger's number, saying ya' never know, call him up...ya'll may horsetrade a bit. Thanks for the pics, I'd never seen the ladder!

Funny how things work. Some of that old truck stuff in the boneyard came from a collecter in East Houston near Galena Park. Funny that some of it may have found its' way back to Houston!

To paraphrase Steve McQueen's Poppa character, "old stuff is cool, new stuff is junk."..

I bet some of the antique truck stuff came from T.E. Cory trucking on Market Street near Normandy street. He used to have a large amount of early trucks stored on I-10 east in Channelview as well. Mr. Cory told me a collector near Seguin had bought up some of his trucks, but I never put the link together.
I have the keys to Chuck's firetruck warehouse at Hobby. It is an amazing place. A lot of early chain drive American LaFrance fire trucks are in there. There is nothing like the sound of a 900 cubic inch T-head 6cylinder engine.
I really like what they are doing out at the Kingsbury Aerodrome. If they were closer to me, I would be out there a lot.

Yep, that's a problem. It's 2 hours drive time for the guys on the west side of Houston, but comes to 3.5 to 4 hours to you and me. I need a helicopter.

That name rings a bell, but it was about 10 years ago...the locations are spot on. The loads I helped with were at I-10 in Channelview. I thought Corey donated the stuff to the museum, but who knows what horsetrading was going on or with possibly a third party donating the rest to Roger...he was kinda land-rich there at the aerodrome.

Amen to that! It'd be great to set up some old RV's there and run off to the flying circus once in a while or over the weekends. Deer camp it and build schtufff! :D

Funny you should mention that, we flew right by at 800 MSL on the way back to Houston coming home from the Randolph AFB airshow !

Thanks -- But I might hasten to add that they're not by me, but from friends. If anyone wants to know who for prints or whatever, just PM.

carlisle1926, I regret we didn't meet. Or maybe if we did, that I wasn't quite aware of "who you are". Seems like WIX'ers oughta wear dayglo derbies or something.... :supz:

Carlisle1926, have you ever seen the restored 1923 LaFrance at Brenham FD?

I had a thoroughly good time at Kingsbury. Pogo tried to teach me a bit of Model T lore but mostly we buzzed the field in the ambulance.
That was the first time I have ever seen a rotary engine running. Castor Oil? HaaawwwwK! Ptoo! hmm , tastes like an old two stroke moto xer.
I shot a bunch of pix too. Just before I left, I spotted a photo op of the PT-22 in the late afternoon sun. I clumb up on the fence, steadying myself on a light pole until the pole started leaning too! Yikes!

Ryan, I hope y'all liked the Souther Flyer Diner. If you flew in on 16 or out on 34, you overflew my house. Give me a tad of advance notice next flight and I'll meet you for chow.

I think that we might ought to wear something to identify fellow WIXers.
--Canso42--- I haven't seen the LaFrance that Brenham has. I had the privilege of working on a 1926 American LaFrance today. I'm about to build a bar out of the front end of a 1947 LaFrance that I parted out a few months back to get the Lycoming V12 out of it- same engine as an Auburn car.

In case any of you felt an earthquake last week, I finally learned how to use photobucket. Here's a few of my pix from Kingsbury.
This was the first time I've ever seen a rotary engine run.
