Love your posts Matthias. Thanks.

@dtpitcairn: Definitely not "fed up", because registration is (and has to be) D-E(DUP). Germany has a registration system where you can see at once to which class the a/c belongs. D stands for Deutschland (Germany) - the following letter stands for the class of the a/c, mainly by MTOW. D-EXXX (X for any letter) means single engined, up to 2 (metric) tons TOW, D-FXXX single engined over 2 up to 5.7 tons. D-GXXX multi engined up to 2 tons, D-HXXX means helicopters, D-AXXX a/c over 20 tons. D-KXXX motorgliders, D-0000, (0 for any number) gliders.
So not fed up, but ded up, lol.

BTW very fine pictures and information what is going on in the shop. Keep them coming Matthias. Any news on the silver FW 190? Thanks for your efforts.

Michael

Michael,
Thanks very much for the explanation (which I found very interesting and enlightening) brought on by my attempt at humor. It did not occur to me that the letter might mean something given that it would not have in the UK or the USA (yes there is a block of FAA reserved numbers but old registrations are grandfathered in).

Man, its a warbirdshop and Yeah, that is the rare and mighty combat Archer II with the powerful 4-cylinder radialboxerinline ... it looks friendly, but its really a beast. They have constructed some hardpoints at the wings and a thermonuclear cannon attachted at the centerline position :axe: :supz:

.... okay just kidding a bit  the complete reg is D-EDUP and that poor Archer II is one of the workhorses belonging to a flightschool in Freiburg. MeierMotors do not only maintain and restore warbirds or historical planes, they also work on "normal" planes as an EASA regulated shop.

That is interesting about the meaning of German registration numbers. No chance of putting your initials in the number huh?

For sure, that works. Only the first letter is not changable, numbers are not allowed.

Its tricky I know, but you can generate solutions  So the P-51 Lucky Lady belonging to Christoph. The German Reg is D-FPSI .... D-F is the normal reg Mto bigger heavier then 2 tons. The combination PSI is readable like P51, you only must use the right font-type, then the "S" becomes a "5". Or the fantastic reg of Spitfire MkVIIIb / MaxAlpha Aviation > D-FIRE :D , the Yagen Focke Wulf D-FMFW > M = MeierMotors > FW = Focke Wulf :supz:

The biggest fun is to search a solution that fits

You need a D-FUGA!

Fouga23 wrote:You need a D-FUGA!

@Fouga23: It won´t be possible with a Fouga Magister to get D-Fuga as registrationnumber, because it has 2 engines. So it would be D-IUGA, as multi-engined a/c over 2 up to 5.7 tons have to start with D-I..., for example Claus Colling´s Fouga has reg. D-IFCC. Or is there any (early) single engined Fouga (proto-)type between 2 and 5.7 tons?

Michael

Sorry to have to disappoint you.

crap :p

BTW, I believe Claus sold his Fouga :( Don't know who the new owner is. Hope it stays in Germany though! It's one of only Four original German build Fouga's remaining in Germany.

Thank you very much!! It had never occured to me that the second letter of the German registrations ment some thing. The next time I'm called out to a Lufthansa aircraft at work, I shall amaze all my work mates with this!
I have said it before and I'll say it again "I learn something every time I look at WIX"!
