Stukas Anyone?

It sure would be cool to see a restored original Stuka (or a full-scale replica) on the air show circuit. Maybe someone in Europe has a secret project in the works. . . :roll:

When I was 5 or 6 years old, "Santa Claus" brought me a Cox .049-powered control line Stuka model. After the spring thaw (those northern Kentucky winters were long and cold) my Dad and I went out into the pasture behind the house to fly the Stuka. I'm not sure Dad had ever flown a control line model in his life, and I know I certainly hadn't. We fired up that screaming .049, the Stuka took off, Dad immediately lost control, and the wayward Stuka power-dove straight into the ground with a resounding "crunch". So much for that year's Christmas present.

To this day, I've never owned another control line model. . . :lol:

Neat story Dean, though I'm sure you didn't think so at the time! Like the earlier full size investigation of the crash site in Poland, d'you think the remains might still be there for a rebuild of your control-line Stuka? :lol:

This Ju-87 wreck still resides in in my basement in a box where it cashed in 1982. Sadly, the crew didn't escape....

Here is a photo from the colection of my great uncle Ted Homewood, who passed away last month, of a Stuka he came across in the North African desert. Someone here might find it of interest.

Where did that Berlin wreck come from?

Is that the one that Sir Tim Wallis had planned to get flying here in NZ till he had his crash and it was sold?

@armyjunk2: Of course I can do, and yes, it tells where she came from.

The first paragraph just tells the general information about the Ju 87 and the "Blitzkrieg" kind of warfare, I can translate it as well if anybody wishs to, but it is only the basics everybody of you might find common knowledge.

Second paragraph is dealing with the exhibited a/c.
"The exhibited Junkers Ju 87 is Werknummer 5856, and wore the tactical sign L1+BL. Last unit was Stukageschwader St.G 5, operating on the northern front. On 2. July 1942 it had to be force landed on russian territory, where the wreck was retrieved in 1994. From England it was sold to New Zealand. Technikmuseum Berlin aquired the wreck in 1997."

That´s the info given by the museum.

Thanks, so that is Sir Tim's old Stuka. It's interesting to see how intact it was. If all had gone to plan it would probably be flying now along with his Bf110, Bf109F, Fw190, and all those Ratas and Chaikas he had, plus his Spitfires, Hurricane, Corsair, P-40K, Avenger, etc. Oh what might have been. As it stands now only the hurricane remains at Wanaka.

Agreed, I was very excited as a kid to read of the Stuka in NZ. I wrote to Sir Tim regading this and the Bf110 in 1997 and was disappointed to read his reply letting me know they had returned toGermany and the DTM.

And it took getting up close to the FSM at Omaka two years ago to realise just how big they were. After that, I decided that the replica currently flying in the US would do me fine! I would love to see and hear a real or 1/1 repro at an airshow in the future.
