Looking for Information on CAF Pilot Disney

I note from the NTSB brief that 3 people survived the accident. This was new to me, as I thought all onboard perished in the crash. I remember buying a video from "airsho 84" which includes the last take-off of this very nice looking navy blue PBY-6.

One of Phillip MaKanna's Calenders features shots of the PBY which I believe were taken on that fateful last flight. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but there was also a series of published shots of the accident as it happened. I think they may have been in Air Comics.

Warbirds Intl was the publication. Hmm. "different named". If I remember right there was a scandal (lawsuit?) about where and who those pics came from...and who really was the "different named" individual and whether he gave permission for their publication.

My grandfather was killed in this crash. His name was Oliver Patterson. He had actually flown BPYs in search and rescue missions during WWII. I remember that he was very excited about getting to see this plane and to actually get to be on board as a passenger.

I was 14 at the time of his death and am interested in any additional information. I am also interested in photos of the crash siter If anyone knows where to find them I would appreciate your help.

The name "Dick" Disney surfaced while doing research on a CAF P-63. He used to be one of the pilots of one of CAF P-63E N9004R. AAF 43-11731. Someone in CAF ferried that aircraft from Blythe, Calif to S. Texas c. 1960 after being sold by the late Bob Bean to CAF c. 1960s. I believe it was him.

Pictures of Dick Disney & P-63E N9004R are rare. When it came in was originally bare metal scheme and later was painted white with red stripes. In one of the display flights around Mercedes, TX on c. 3/1964 he had to land quick due to an IFE, the engine catching on fire and later destroying much of the aircraft. "Dick'' Disney walked away from that one. (RIP). I'll post some of those pics after some archives digging!!
