According to a question at one of the evenings press conferences, yes, this is the first time.

Thoughts are with my friends who are there and all others involved.

And some smoke coming from where the radiator would normally be.

And do yourselves a favor, don't read the comments on that yahoo story.

I'm not 100% sure, but that smoke may be part of the boil off cooling system the Ghost used. Anyone know for sure?

The smoke is steam. This had a boil off system for cooling and is normal to exhaust there.

I'm not going to watch the video or look at pictures. I had just gotten off work when I got the message from my Dad. There just aren't words for something like this. Can't believe it. Just feel so sick and numb. Had the pleasure of talking to Jimmy once at GML and he struck me as a humble and caring human being. My prayers to his family, friends and crew. Our thoughts are with you, and the family and friends of the others lost today.

Saw a news report that the Huey was an aircraft on static display, they gassed it up and used it to help get folks to the airport.

AAFO.com has a statement saying he lost an elevator trim tab, as shows on the AP photo...

Did we just relive Bob Hannah's experience with "Voodoo Chile" except with tragic results?

Words fail me tonight. Have NOT heard from all those I know who were attending. Praying for the injured and families of the deceased.

Sad news and just when you thought this year couldn't get any worse :?
Fortunately our guys who were covering the event were not harmed.
Condolences to those who were and their families and RIP those that lost their lives.

In the photos being circulated on Yahoo, one seriously bothers me, and it is the pic BEFORE the pic that has been shown here, it shows a side view of 'Ghost' alledgedly just seconds before impact...and I gotta ask...WHERE is the pilot? ALL I see in that pic is plexiglass, no hint of a helmet or anyone in the cockpit...and comparing it with other photos of 'Ghost' on takeoff and in the air, you can ALWAYS see the pilot/Leeward in the plexiglass.....can someone smarter than me post that photo up here for folks to see?

Just putting it out there....

Mark
