In the second photo fabric tape is visible so I'm gonna guess Hurricane.

As to which one, is it Z5207 (G-BYDL)? I hear it's supposedly being restored as a Tropical Mk IIb so the desert camo makes sense.

But John, doesn't their P-40F already have this as nose art?

The Flying Skull of the 85th FS wouldn't make much sense for a Hurricane, unless they used one as a hack?

L-bird maybe?

Or perhaps this...?

We have the correct answer !

Here's the cowling picture before I removed the camouflage in photoshop

Image

The art work on the rudder ( tail art ? ) was added after Flying Legends Air Show in July.
At that stage the RAF fin flash was the wrong way around ~ it's now been corrected

Image

And we ought to add a picture of the P-40 as she looks today at Duxford

Thank you for the photos, Peter! I love the fact that the artwork is hand-painted, and thus looks of the period. Although there are many examples to find, now that the aircraft has made itself well-seen flying at Duxford, here is just one photo of the TFC P-40F, showing the artwork on the starboard side of the rudder, but before the latest artwork applied to the cowling on the same side, as Peter has shown.

That's why I didn't recognize it! Wasn't even thinking it would be a close up of the rudder... oh well. I've got no place to put a pony anyway.

I already have a pony. This is one of the many reasons that I do not own a warbird. It is certainly the primary reason that I hardly ever make it to the airport these days. That pony is the only reason I am sitting at home reading the WIX forums on this fine Saturday afternoon in St. Louis and not at the airport. My wife and oldest daughter are at an all weekend long horse show and I am watching the other two kiddos. Actually, the horse show started on Thursday and ends Sunday. When was the last time I got to go to a four day fly-in or airshow? :(

So here is my offer. I'll trade you the pony (Patchwork Grand Finale) or "Bubbles" as he is known around the barn plus my Stearman for that warbird with the new nose art.

Such a deal I'm telling you.....to my own brother I would not make such a deal! :)

Jack,
Throw in this way cool tack trunk your neice won the other day......(yes I done stole the image from your FaceBook page) ...And....I'm not done yet.....
Image

Bust into Evergreen's musuem like that crazy dude did a while back and paint the correct nose art on Del's B-17G. Put "The Seventh Wonder" over this logo below and the plane will be, as you say "right".

Image

And then you've got yourself a deal. :)

This thread hijack brought to you by......me.
