Mike, here are some places you may want to consider:

If you drive EAST from San Diego, on I-8, besides the warbirds you can see at Gillespie Field, El Cajon, CA, on the NORTH-EAST side of the airport, there is the San Diego Air & Space Museum's annex, that is worth visiting. Several Jets outside, and also aircraft inside the hangar.

Just North of El Centro proper, there is the Imperial County Airport, where on a regular basis you will see CH-53s, FA-18s, C-130s, and other military aircraft either landing or doing touch and goes.

If you go EAST from the airport, you'll find the Pioneer's Museum @ 373 East Aten Rd., Imperial CA. There is an F-14 there.

Between Yuma and Gila Bend, you'll see the Dateland Airfield, a WW-II auxiliary airfield, just NORTH of I-8.

Heading EAST, if you stop at the Gila Bend Municipal Airport, in Gila Bend, AZ, you will see two F-101s as gate guardians.

Just SOUTH from the Gila Bend Muni, there is the Gila Bend AF Auxiliary Airfield.

I do not know about access restrictions, but there is an F-86 on display in one of the few green areas (1st and I St) of the installation.

Saludos,

Tulio

The F-14 is no longer there.

I assume you mean a F-84? If so it is here...

...and unfortunately it is not accessible to the public. I will be stopping by Gila Bend to get pictures of the F-101s.

An F-84 it is, then. I saw the Google Earth image last night, and I thought it was an ' 86.

What can you tell me about the F-14 in El Centro? Where is it now? Last time I saw it, was in 2005 or 2006.

The F-14 hasn't popped up on the radar at a new location yet. I fear the worst.

I just took at look at the latest Google satellite image for Goss Hawk in Casa Grande...

I see a Privateer parked on the ramp. Is there one still parked there?

Mike,
As listed in USAMOOS 2010, which I think you have a copy of!! - it was taken back to El Centro NAS. It was still there in March this year.

That is good news! Thanks Andy. With so much detail in your book I am sure to miss something. :-)
