The Alberta Aviation Museum with its partner 418 “City of Edmonton” Squadron are proud to announce the “Roll out” Ceremony for our latest restoration.

September 3rd at 1:00pm we will be presenting to the public our North American B-25 Bomber redone to be representative of the aircraft operated by 418 “City of Edmonton” Squadron during the 1950s from the hangar that now houses the Alberta Aviation Museum. Guests to include the restoration team, 418 Squadron members and dignitaries.

This roll out of this aircraft is a remarkable achievement by the volunteers of the Alberta Aviation Museum as it represents 7 years and many tens of thousands of hours of volunteer time. The volunteers ranged from teenagers to gentlemen in their 80s and 90s spanning generations with their dedication.

When donated by the family of Terry Harold the aircraft had been derelict at their family farm for many decades having been part of their Water Bomber operations. The airframe while sound was missing many components and had suffered from some damage. The Alberta Aviation Museum/418 Squadron team scoured North American to secure the parts required and then restored the 67 year old components to create the masterpiece that will be presented.

The “Roll out” is the highlight of the 70th Anniversary of 418 “City of Edmonton” Squadron founded during the Second World War and leaving a history of accomplishments and honours that will last the test of time.

Very little considering they were expected to be the first line of defense against the communist hoards in the 1950s.

This one is very close to the original HO251 in equipment and pics as we had a huge selection of photos to work from.

Static

The City of Edmonton is in the process of closing the airport our museum is on plus, and frankly, we did not have the budget to go to a flyer.

That said there is nothing on the aircraft that could not be changed with enough budget and it could go in the air.

Love the Grey Cup nose art.

Edmonton has had some powerhouse football clubs but being an Ottawa Rough Rider's fan from long past forgive me if I say I can't stand the Eskies.

Looks fantastic, kudos to all involved.

Morning Jeff

Considering I'm not a football fan at all (heck I can't think of any pro sports I'm a fan of anymore)....but she is quite close in representing the history of the day and that's the important part to me. lol

For immediate release: September 2nd, 2011

“Piyautaili”…Inuit…roughly translating to “Defend unto death”.

The Squadron motto adopted for the 418 “City of Edmonton” Squadron crest in 1946.
A quick look at the history of 418 Squadron shows that from its creation in 1941 as an intruder squadron through missions ranging from being “Guardians of the North” to Search and Rescue through to it’s disbanding in the 1990s the personnel of have honoured the motto and in the service of our country been prepared to “Defend unto death”.

From recognized heroes such as Edmontonian “Russ Bannock” and others during the Second World War to everyday heroes of the Cold War and beyond the personnel of 418 “City of Edmonton” Squadron have created traditions and history that all Edmontonians, Albertans and Canadians can be proud of.

In honour of the 70th Anniversary of 418 “City of Edmonton” Squadron the Alberta Aviation Museum is proud to honour it’s partner, 418 Squadron, Saturday September 3rd at 1pm with the “Roll out” ceremony of our North American B 25 Mitchell Bomber restored to be representative of the 418 Squadron aircraft flown from the hangar that is now home to the Alberta Aviation Museum.

The aircraft represent 7 years and many tens of thousands of hours of volunteer effort by the members of our facility and was only possible with the assistance of our partner 418 Squadron and the donation of the basic airframe by the family of Terry Harold of Lamont Alberta. Glistening in it’s Royal Canadian Air Force colours of the 1950s and equipped to the configuration of the day the B 25 becomes another jewel in the presentation of the Alberta Aviation Museum, Canada’s 3rd largest aircraft collection, and a leader among Canada’s Aviation Museum community.

Please join us along with 418 Squadron, our members and guests September 3rd at 1:00pm as our B 25 “Daisy Mae” is presented to the public for the first time, honouring 418 Squadron in it’s 70th Anniversary year.

For more information on the Alberta Aviation Museum or the B-25 please visit the website at: www.albertaaviationmuseum.com.

I'll post some roll out pics after the event as well

Tom

wow thats amazing...nice paintjob

i am a volunteer with a local museum (link in sig) and ive only done a minimal amount of volunteer time with them, helping set up at shows and all that kind of stuff. These guys that work on the aircraft do the heavy work and should be congratulated on their work. i tell the guys that work on the aircraft the museum im with that they should be aplluaded at all the hours theve spent labouring over these peices of metal.

Anyways what im getting at, this aircraft probably wasnt painted overnight, wasnt put together in 5 minutes, 7-10 years s is alot of work. and im hoping that the team are thanked and that the day goes...(i hope you know what im talking about..)

good luck and congrats!!

That is a nice looking airplane! The B-25 looks good with the Maple leaf.
