Sole Survivor (1970) is a TV movie written by Guerdon Trueblood and directed by Paul Stanley. It starred Richard Basehart, William Shatner, and Vince Edwards. The film is loosely based on the discovery, in 1959, of the remains of a B-24 Liberator bomber, "Lady Be Good" in the Libyan desert, which crashed following a bombing raid on Naples in 1943.[1]

"The Twilight Zone" TV series episode entitled "King Nine Will Not Return" had a similar storyline, and was also based the discovery of the "Lady Be Good".

Still Sole Survivor has a cult following, I'm not sure why, but it and King 9 were both pretty boring once you saw the airplane. King 9 did have a twist at the end........

I think so much damage has been done to the LBG from its original crash condition it really doesnt seem like the same plane to a casual viewer, and hurts the interest and value - it is basically a stripped hulk which is heavily cut up. It appears when the Libyans moved it they cut it into several pieces and prior to that it was very severely stripped. There are lots of B-24 crash sites in the south pacific that could be recovered also and put in a museum that would be more original condition.

Quaddafi was trying to get closer with the west for many years. If there was any interest in this aircraft from the US government, he would have gladly turned it over many years ago I am sure. Quaddafi was far more reasonable to deal with than any new rebel based government will be in my opinion.

I can't seem to get the coordinates properly set up, but if you go to Tubruk, Libia and start zooming in you should see the icon for LBG pop up.

LBG TODAY (2010 to Present)

What remains of the Lady Be Good were moved back to this compound (from a temporary stay at the former El Adem Airfield 16 miles south of Tobruk) sometime in 2009-2010. As of this GE Map update, (07/27/2011) this is the most recent "verified" location of the Lady Be Good's remains we are are aware of.

This was comunicated to us in an email from Muir T Smith, Project Manager at the National Consulting Bureau, Garyounis University, Al Marj Campus, Al Marj, Libya on October 21st 2010.

The precise location we've mapped (along the west wall of this compound) has been ascertained by comparing surrounding compound details and adjacent buildings of recent photos from visitors to the compound with the latest Google Earth aerial texture set of the area. As of this update (07/27/2011) the most recent GE aerial textures of Tobruk were taken on July 13th, 2009 when the Lady was temporarily housed at the airbase to the south and she thus does not show up in this compound at either her new or former location (in the northwest corner).

She may be seen at her 2004 to 2009 location at the northwest corner of this compound in GE by using the "History Slider" (the clock icon with the arrow on the GE tools menu) and sliding it back to the year 2007.
