Twitter @ skymarkwhite:

Eyewitness in Bournemouth tells Sky (News) he believes pilot of Red Arrows jet pulled from river. No independent confirmation of this

Sadly it has been confirmed by the MOD that Red 4, Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging, was killed in this afternoon's crash.
RIP

I wonder if he was incapacitated somehow. The video shows his smoke on all the way to the ground whereas all the others had cut the smoke well before that. Sad to hear of his loss, the Red Arrows have been having a bad few years having lost several airplanes and another pilot recently (in a non-display accident).

Seems similar to the Blue Angel crash a couple years back with GLOC.
Do the Red Arrows use g-suits?

Sad to see it happened.

What a lousy day. I'm well ready for this season to be over.

This was my first thought, and I also would like to know if they wear g-suits. So sad to add another pilot to the day's diaster count in the USA also!

I hate to even think this, but you know what? Me too. :( This year has taken a horrific toll on aircraft and pilots.

My thoughts and sympathies go out to the friends and families of the lost pilots.

High Flight - by John Magee

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunwards I’ve climbed and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds – and done a thousand things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hovering there,
I’ve chased the shouting wind along and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air,
Up, up the long delirious burning blue
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace,
Where never lark, or even eagle, flew;
And, while with silent, lifting mind I’ve trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of god.

For those across the pond, we had some tragic news yesterday concerning the Red Arrows RAF Display Team. One of their Pilots, flying 'Red 4', crashed moments after completing their full display at the Bournemouth Air Show. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/red-arrow-cras ... 27937.html

Condolences to his Wife, Family, and his fellow Red Arrow Pilot's.

Investigations were started almost immediately. I have no news on the possible circumstances, however for the Pilot to stay with the jet leaves several important questions to ask.

I don't want to be another person suffering from "narcissism of the now", but it sure seems as if this season has been pretty bad. Does anyone have stats regarding the average loses per season? I was at DAY when Jim Leroy crashed and it has affected every show I've been to since. Maybe it is just the fact that we have access to so much news at once, but it does seem as if this season has been very bad.
