Glad to see the restoration of the VC-137C at the AF Museum. Looking forward to seeiing all the Presdiential planes in their new building in a 2 or 3 years or so.
The photo in the link below of the original VC-137A that Eisenhower flew to the Soviet union in during 1959 does not do justice to the paint scheme, but I would love to see a VC-137B 'retro" converted back to the "A" configuration with the original turbojet engines and painted in the U.S. AIR FORCE/MATS paint scheme with the day-glo/flourescent orange markings. That's a great scheme and would look fantastic on a display aircraft. I think the Pima Air Museum may have the aircraft that was originally in these markings and configuration.

I was surprised to hear that the strake was removed from 26000! As said earlier, it helped with the Dutch Roll problem. Ralph Albertazzi, who took over from Jim Cross when Nixon took office in 1969, often commented about the strake and how much better 26000 flew vs our back up plane; 86970 which did not have the strake.

Chief,
I see where Colonel Albertazzi passed away ... not sure if it was today or perhaps yesterday ..
