What's the story on the Privateer? Didn't they all sell at the auction?

I am not for sure, as there were a number of P2v's there....there was one that could have been the one being converted to the turbo-prop configuration...looks like they had tried to cut up one of them with a forklift...one big pile of aircraft mess..

All I know of the PB4Y-2's there, is that Hawkins, and Powers kept one each 4Y for themselves...so the pair that are there are owned..

Yes, the -97 is Lacy's bird.

I recall seeing a total of 4 C-119's there, and two were in Canadian markings

Thanks Gary

Any idea of who to contact? Suggestions?

I thought these were gone

One Canadian-marked C-119 came from Greybull to the 1941 HAG museum in Geneseo, NY. That might have been ten years ago or more; after sitting for a long time, they are now restoring it to static-display condition.

That's not really too remarkable, since 1112 of the 1183 C-119's made were made by Fairchild.

What ever happened to the C-119 and P2V operated by David Brady in Cartersville Georgia back in the late 80's or early 90's... He used to bring them to Tico... I know he was killed in his T-37 around June of 91, but I don't know what happened to his other stuff... Thanks, Mike

Isn't that 'the trade' that sort of set off the Congressional Investigation of the 'firebomber/museums' scandal?

I though that was where the service museums traded early C-130s, C-118, Convairs and the like for WWII-era stuff.
And some of the ex-military aircraft found employment on the "black market" or somesuch.

I might be wrong...

I thought I remembered it specifically citing a C-119 to Geneseo and the question of whether it was legitimately a 'warbird of historic significance' or something like that...and it snowballed from there. And it had to do with 'trading' the government these said "significant" aircraft for C-130's. I don't think that in and of itself was the issue...but it was part of the eyebrow raising that led to the discovery of selling one or more of the C-130s for profit....

But I am getting old, so I could be WAAAAY off.

It appears the paperwork for the C-97...
ImageAerial Visuals - Airframe Dossier - KC-97L Stratotanker, s/n 53-0265 USAF, c/n 17047, c/r N497HP
...was just recently completed to show this Strato in the hands of Harold Sheppard, although WD5 indicates he has owned it since 2006. Was is the currently condition of 53-365? Does this paperwork update indicate a pending movement of the airframe?
