One puzzler for more experienced resto experts...we used the usual blue masking and clear sealing tape to keep paint off the afterburner cans and the canopy. The searing temps in Ohio seemed to have bonded the tape to these surfaces.

My wife recommended using lighter fluid as the naptha tends to take off the adhesive...any steer from Wix'ers are welcome....

You can try anything on the burner cans, they're a high heat alloy, and you can't do anything to hurt'em. The jet looks good.

I know many years ago, we tried everything to get adhesive from dash of mustang as padded part was bad and metal was painted below. Liquid wrench ended up the winner with us.

to remove adhesives at the bodyshop I manage, we use KENT Acrysol and the more aggressive KENT Speedy 500. They are both ment to remove tape adhesive. Both will not hurt cured paint. But if the paint is fresh, stay with acrysol. And use gloves for your skin when useing any adhsive remover.

3M makes a specific adhesive remover. It's really very effective, but pricey.
Ronson makes a lighter fluid. It's merely very effective, and not as pricey.
Everyone makes a V&MP Naphtha. It's reasonable effective and dirt cheap.

I've used all three doing signs and graphics. None of them will affect properly cured/dried paint if handled with a little care.

We have some plastic signs here that we use vinyl lettering on. When we have to replace the lettering, I use Goo Gone that I picked up at the local hardware store. It does not cost a lot, and it is really easy to find/get. I am not sure how it would do on metal aircraft, but it is citrus based, so it does not smell bad, or leave any type of residue.

We also use 3M adhesive remover on boats. It does not hurt the fiberglass. It also works good for taking TAR off the cars.

You can use anything you want here, even a propane torch, it won't be hurt.

Rick: I don't know about the torch but from what I've seen I think the F-4 would stand up to an atomic blast to get the tape off!

Eucalyptus oil works well on delicate surfaces for tape residue removal as well.

ONLY, use the torch on the burner nozzles !
