Any wartime or post war pics of Grumman J2F Ducks? Also any news on any flyers or restorations of this under appreciated aircraft?

I just read on Wiki that the USCG is looking to recover a Duck from a glacier. Any info on this?

Thanks

Navy birds aren't really my bag, so I can't offer any truly useful info, but here's some images I found on evilbay a few years back. (these are the auction images; the photos are not in my collection) They were from the collection of Photographer's Mate 1st Class Raymond F. Town, and may have been taken in or around the Key West area. Enjoy...

I was lucky enough to have rode in this Duck. It was traded from the Kermit Weeks Collection to Air Force Museum for his P35 Seversky. I have also rode in his present Duck.

Dang..I forgot about that one! I don't know how..it's the only time I've ever seen a Duck fly (the Grumman variety, anyway)

As to current status, IIRC in a recent discussion (here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=16860 ) there was a mention (on page three) of one Duck up for grabs. Otherwise I don't believe there's been any changes of ownership / flying / restorations. But I'd be interested.

It's still ongoing. The CG is waiting for some NASA P-3 sensor data to get processed from an April search at the crashsite. Tentitive plans are in the works to go back up there this year.....however nothing is set in stone yet. The primary goal is to pinpoint and reach the Duck so any MIA remains (3 MIA's) can be returned to the family members or Arlington National Cemetary. Anything to do with the aircraft itself is secondary. There's also tentative plans to work a nearby C-53 case up there with 5 MIA's. More to follow on all.......

the duck is 1 of kermit weeks favorite mounts to fly. 1 duck did some post ww2 duty on a coast guard ice breaker for some antartic expedition, can't recall what the mission was.

Not sure about "Antarctic" but the "Arctic" would have been escort/U-boat duty. I located the son of a CG Duck pilot who flew up there on U-boat duty. We were able to scan his logbook.

There's quite a few CG Duck/icebreaker pics out there.
