Thanks for the I.D. Taigh. Sorry about the loss of your Annie.... Wish I was in your neighborhood, I'd love to pitch in ...a bad day scrubbin' Harpoons is a lot better than a good day drivin' truck!
I saw a torpedo the other day, in of all places, in front of a courthouse in Wahoo, Nebraska...looked a little long to fit a Harpoon, but it was looking nice all polished and shining...

Gary...it makes sense that it would be a submarine torpedo. No doubt a memorial to the U.S.S. Wahoo, the ride of the famous Commander Mush Morton who was lost on the Wahoo. He was sunk by the Japanese after the first round of depth charges sprang an oil leak on the Wahoo, then they simply had to follow the leak and send them to the bottom. The Wahoo was found several years ago. Morton's XO, Dick O'Kane went on to fame with the U.S.S. Tang.

A small amount of progress was made on the old gal yesterday. We are starting the cleaning and prep process for getting her into her non specular sea blue fighting colors, or should I say color. Prep for paint is the longest and most labor intensive part of the painting process. The quality of the finish is directly proportional to quality of the prep work. Since our Harpoon will likely be living outside she needs a good protective finish.

Here is a shot in front of the hangar that we hoped would be available for us to use for the painting process but it was not to be. Oh well.

Image

Scrubbing, scouring, soda blasting, cleaning was the order of the day. The soda works well on removing light surface corrosion found on some of the lower surfaces. It works infinitely better than scotch brite by cleaning out any pits. You just have to be sure to blow out and wash out the residue.

Two down! It was a hard day but a good day

We flew her back home after working on her all day. She was cruising right along at 165 knots at an easy power setting of 30 inches and 2050 RPM.

Taigh,

If you were not able to begin painting there, where do you plan to paint it now and when?

Well Guys and Gals, the "old Girl" certainly looks better than just a few months back. This thread has been such a treet to watch. When do the fairings over the gun ports in the nose come off? I was hoping Gary Hilton was gonna have some success in his atempt to get another Lockheed going, but dang it, it just didn't happen! I'm in Illinois now and Missouri ain't that far away, maybe I coulda helped.

Alright, alright, alright, due to Taigh's constant hounding, I am finally going to start posting on WIX. Seem's I've been a "super lurker" for sometime now and haven't been pulling my weight. I'm best described as Taigh's redheaded sidekick and have my hands in most everything that's happening out here in Stockton.

So that's me dipping my toe into the warm waters of WIX, now I'm going to start peeing in the pool! Are you happy now Taigh?

And Scott, you should have seen the sexy dance that proceeded the shirt coming off!!!!!!!

Ken

I would like to say that Ken is one of those awesome guys who is a real delight to have around. He is always upbeat and positive and you can't help but have a good day or a good time when Ken is present.

He has helped the museum to progress about 700% faster than before and he also finds great people to help get things done.

Thanks Ken for all that you do! :drink3:

Yes, I am happy now

Thanks for the heads up. I won it on eBay for cheap now I hope it is also cheap to ship. Maybe we could use it on our PV-1 Super Ventura some day should we ever try to make it stock again. Thanks again for letting me know about it.

Taigh, there was (correctly) a space in Shrike's link, which unfortunately trips up the forum software and you have to copy and paste the whole works.

Now that I've said that, Click here for what Shrike meant for you to see.

-Tim

P.S. This is easily my favourite thread, just thought you should know.
