Yes, you're quite humerous  :?
Especially since it has shag carpeting, Corinthian leather and pair of fuzzy dice hanging off the dash.
It really needs white walls, powder blue wings and jelly beans all over and ....yes maybe a shark's mouth  :P

For true authenticity, you'll need D-Day stripes.

Looks like fairly healthy variety to me...certainly better than the number of Spitfires not wearing roundels.

If a natural aluminium Mustang is choosen, PLEASE keep it natural aluminium and not silver painted or überchromed, there are already enough rich dentists planes around ;-)

Y'know, for such a pretty airplane, the Mustang has had to endure some pretty tacky paint jobs.

I second the 23rd FG scheme. Nice motion. If you could find one that also had a decent pin-up on it, it would rock.

Plus, they are already available as Corgi models, so you would have something to peddle at air shows.

There's a lot of paint schemes that are from Pacific fighters and IL-1946 pc game. I think they have everybody and then custom ones that people have made. Very nice graphic designing. Personally, it never hurts to name your plane after your girl or maybe your mother,( if you have good relationships!) Or maybe after your home town that the mustang will be from? Be creative and stick with your own scheme. After all, whatever paint you put on a mustang she's going to look great anyways. Good luck!

My .02 cents would be to look into the history of the airframe and choose a scheme from its career. Or maybe the simple way she looked when she rolled off the assembly line- probably natural metal, national insignias and serial numbers.

Cheers,
Chappie

Ah...so sorry. Lately I like to see warbirds restos that remain true to the airframe.

I would also vote for an old 60's or 70's civilian style scheme, maybe a little somethin' like one of these:

How about Charlie Woods' My Mac/Sweet Jeneviere of the 375th FS, 361st Fighter Group.

Has the rare advantage of being photographed from almost every angle (including inside) - see http://www.361fg.com/CharlieWoods3.htm

These are a few examples: -
