Low flying Orions over Baltimore-DC next 5 weeks

Sun Jun 26, 2011 3:51 pm

I didn't see this topic on the site:

NASA P3 Orions will be collecting air quality data at altitudes as low as 1,000ft. over the next month in the Baltimore-DC area.

endlessly droning around in a P-3 is more boring than a box of rocks!

You know it's bad when the FE comes aft and smacks ya upside the head and
say "get the h*ll up front I'm taking over back here!". FEs alway seemed to
think they owned the a/c!

I had more than one FE smack me upside the head and tell me 'not to touch that'.

Several years ago NOAA had a G-1 stage out of Northeast Philly doing this.

A 1st class named Bob Connoly was the ONLY guy who had a look that would make me cower. He was also the guy who, on my first flight in the squadron said 'Sir...just fly the plane. You don't touch ANYTHING ELSE in here.'

Ha! Chief Kirk was often heard to say "please sir, just don't do anything STUPID!"
Good advice I always tried to follow!

I can just imagine the number of 'there's an airplane about to crash into the whatever bank building' calls that 911 is going to get. Remember all the idiots who called 911 when Air Force 1 flew over New York a few years ago on a P.R. photo op? Let alone the sight of a strangely painted P-3 buzzing up and down I-95 @ 1000 feet will create, and all the collisions among dipsquat distracted drivers who are trying to drive and yak on the Crackberry.

Who's the mental midget who devised that plan? It's genius I tells ya, pure genius!!
