Re: TFC P-47G Thunderbolt Unveiled

It really looks awesome! Congratulations to all involved on this aircraft, it has been fun watching from afar, as it has come together over the past few years, and I am really looking forward to seeing those first-flight photos when they eventually come! There are just certain schemes and details that bring the look and feeling of WWII-era 1940's to life better than others it seems, and this is definitely one of them.

BomberFlight, as always, thank you very kindly for providing these superb photos!

There's always one....

Me, I think she looks fantastic! As a model builder, I'm impressed at the attention to detail regarding the colors..right down to the olive drab landing gear struts (I seem to remember reading that Curtiss P-47Gs used green in the wheel wells rather than Zinc Chromate Yellow, but since this bird is masquerading as a Republic-built D I'm more than willing to let it pass. )

Well actually I love it. I just wish it were a TP-47G with full back cockpit intrumentation. I'll have to settle for watching videos of it fly overhead and building models.

Ya know, the only way this could be better for me was if it was the same paint job but all beat to crap from combat missions showing all the field repairs and wear and tear and stains of combat rather than 10 of 10 restoration. I'd really love "angel hair" and mirrors under the display with nasty old oil dripping on it. No wait, that's a 59 Impala at the hot rod show....never mind.

Seriously, a real worn, working restoration would be real cool, regardless of the airframe. :D

Thanks for the pictures Peter... most appreciated. As Mudge said, I'm looking forward to seeing her in person in just over 3 weeks! 8)

So that's how you use up excess cans of black and white striped paint! Neat how they did the coats in oposite directions on the cowling too...

Another high-standard UK-researched and applied scheme of US colo(u)rs... 8)

Great looking P47 at Duxford. Look forward to seeing her in a few weeks.

Now I really cannot wait to see the P47-D-28-RA 42-29150 K4-S 'Dottie Mae' when she is completed in 18-24 months. That will be a silver scheme but totally authentic.

Will have to do an update on her - she is making great progress and looking good.

Now she can earn some patina in the skies over England! 8)

That would be the individual aircraft letter (the 'D' in 'WZ*D').
It helps the the crews ID the aircraft from the front without having to walk around and look at the tail.
