- if you go to Ezells web page you will see some pics of the Spit being restored and worked on. I believe the plan is to do some additional work in addition to the strom damage in order to make her better than she was prior. THe Hurricane is offsite for repairs for an incident prior to the storm. She was not in the hanger when the flood occured.

Steve, only parts of the Hurricane were out for repair following the accident ( wing and empennage )
. Unfortunately the balance was most definitely in the hangar and suffered the same soaking as the rest.

So we are three pages into this and nobody knows if anything was scrapped or not?

NMUSAF scraps planes all the time.

Yes, indeed the F-82 and A-25 are on the scrapping list

The Hurricane and Spitfire are still at their respective restoration facilities. And FYI,there were some local spam cans crushed after the storm damage and if a/c parts went into the square file, IMHO they were most likely corroded beyond any use.

But someone did scrap a B-47 a couple of years back...the former Pease plane (52-0401) they were going to send it to Ellsworth and decided not to put it together. The nose and engine were used by the NMUSAF for the RB-47.
I don't know if the NMUSAF actually decided to scrap the plane, but they didn't appear to stop it.
The Ellsworth museum deciding not to reassemble it and the NMUSAF needing parts at about the same time seems a bit of a coincidence... But who knows?
I wonder what happened to the rest of the airframe?
Meanwhile the B-47E that was inside for years has been siting outside for the past several yaers and is looksing the worse for year.

I figure if you wanted my opinion on items unrelated to this forum, you'd ask for it.

There are alot of things that would go into that decision. The condition of the aircraft, it's history vs the history of the one they were restoring, also ownership. There are other variables as well. Just like any other restoration project. The P-82 is on display and the Helldiver is under restoration.

IMHO, no airplanes should be scrapped. Regardless of value, rarity, or how much is left of it.
