Yes, two of my favorite tools! I discovered Knipex pliers while in Switzerland and I fell in love. I bought a set of three different sizes for each of the mechanics back at the shop and they love them too.

Bomber camp was great this year and a good time was had by all.

The wonderful Ground Crew gang from Arizona drove all night after they got off work the Friday before to help set up and get ready for the campers arrival on Wednesday.

The boys from AZ took a liking to the Harpoon and since we had some time before camp started they put some hours in on the PV-2D. They tore into the right engine and pulled, checked, cleaned, gapped, tested and replaced the spark plugs on the right engine. The right had a slight shake to it and a little higher than normal mag drop indicating a likely plug issue and they fixed it right up. This isn't reenacting but it is the real deal. These guys are a true ground crew and it is a real honor to have them working on the Harpoon or any other project here. Thanks guys!

After the new diaphragms in the carbs loosen up with fuel and exercise the mixtures will richen up and will need further adjustment. Ricky and Jimmy worked on adjusting the idle mixtures and they are working great. We took some of the Arizona Ground Crew up for a test hop to check everything out and it was a good flight.

Now both engines are smooth and don't load up while idling.

This thread has been a real treat for us cyber weenies out here in the sticks! We get a vicarious trip with some folks who find an old tired pooner out in the middle of no where and bring it back to life. This is as good as it gets! If I could just find something in a barn or some ones back yard. I keep looking!

I'd like to echo sgt hawk's sentiment.

At the end of the day, these are the kinds of threads that make the WIX a great place. I may rarely (if ever) have a chance to bust a knuckle on one of these beloved machines. As long as folks like spanner, The Inspector, PJ, the late great Gary Austin, and many others equally worthy of admiration continue to post here, I will always come back to this place to see what the people who really make the warbirds fly are doing. It makes the occasional diatribe by a poor internet citizen seem like nothing but an occasionally annoying fly in comparison.

Kudos to you all. Keep 'em flying and know that there are very many of us out here who read these threads, have a look out the window at the blue sky and await they day they can join you in your efforts.

Thanks for the kind words about the Harpoon project. We are having fun and we all like to share that fun so it's nice that others are interested. Any time anyone wants to come by and get dirty on the old girl please do so. We have so many different projects from plugs on the left engine to oil cooler regulators to changing the instrument panel, cleaning for paint, changing screws and only a thousand other things so come on by and bust some knuckles.

If anyone is feeling generous in these tough financial times we could also use monetary donations too. We now have our 501c3 tax exempt status so donations are tax deductible if that matters. We need money for materials for the different projects like paint, turret, interior, guns etc. Elbow grease, money or just keep the well wishes coming as it is all greatly appreciated.

I recently received some photos of tanker 101 in service from 1985. These great photos came from Ken Cabe who worked with the South Carolina Forestry Commission where these pictures came from. Thanks Ken for sending over the photos!

Any thought given to a limited run book on the history, recovery and restoration of 101? I'd sure be in for a copy. What a story it's been already and with so much more of it to be told.
