Canso / Catalina S/N Quests

I am trying to find an ID of a Catalina/Canso with the c/r CF-ICJ. It may have been operated by Kenting when it carried the registration. WD4 drew a blank, and Google did not help. Can anyone suggest any good books?

On a similar note I am looking for a list of Catalinas/Cansos once operated by Nordair. I found an accident report for CF-EMW, but that is it. Did Nordair only operate one or were there others?

Again on a similar note I a looking for a list of Catalinas/Cansos once operated by Trans Air Limited. I have come up with zip so far.

TIA for any tips.

I forgot to check WD4 for the Nordair and Transair airframes before posting. I am finding a few possibilities there.

Still nothing for CF-ICJ though.

Are you sure it is not CF-IGJ - C/n 1791 PBY-5A ex N1565M, Bu 48429 Operated by Kenting Aviation between 1955-59 and rwrecked 19/12/1980 at Sherbrooke, Quebec aand moved to St. Jean?

You could post your questions over on the Yahoo PBY board, I am sure someone there could give you some info. As Paul mentioned David Legg has done a tremendous amount of work with the Catalina/Canso identity mysteries, and he posts regularly on the yahoo forum board.

Thanks Eric! The Kenting pics I have have a common paint scheme which doesn't appear in these photos. But then it is possible some of these were waiting to go to the paint shop.

BTW... Is that a P-38 wing and engine in the last one? I am trying to ID a P-38/F-5 in on of my pictures but can't quite see the markings. I have a good idea which airframe it is. If you have a shot of the P-38 that is in the third shot above, I might be able to confirm.

Is the Lightning this one CF-NMW that flew with Bradley Air Service at Carp, ON? This is a photo of it at the Age Of Flight Museum at Niagara Falls. It is F-5G 44-53193

Kenting operated two lightings...

#1: 44-26761, CF-GXE, Kenting Aerial Surveys, now with Fantasy of Flight

#2: 44-53193, CF-NWM, Kenting Aviation Ltd, wreckage now in Kissimmee

I think your photos are of #2. They are good shots, but were taken when it was a "museum" piece, and I suspect the paint scheme would likely have changed since it was in operation with Kenting.

I believe the one in my photo is #1 since Ryan thought he could read "Aerial Surveys" on the tail boom. I will try to confirm when I get the slides back.

Either way, your shot of the Canso had a P-38 wing in it. I am guessing your dad took the pictures, and he likely also got walk around shots of the P-38 as well (I certainly would have if I was there). If you have some time some day could you take a look? A shot with the paint scheme and the c/r would help confirm the ID I am assuming for now.

Hey Eric I was wondering if that is a Fairchild PT-26 in the last picture next to that T-6??????? If so, I was wondering if that one is still around and what the history on it is?????????

I am not so interested in the aircraft next to the T6. I am a bit more curious what the other bared tube airframe of a biplane with the enclosed canopy in the foregraound is.

It's a Fairey Swordfish mkIV. A mk II with a enclosed canopy for canadian weather.

Now that this thread has strayed so far off topic (sorry Mike), I might as well join in the fun by saying Welcome Aboard Davey! My little brother, and partner in the restoration of one our Fairchild PT's, (PT-26 FH992), has finally made the transition from "lurker" to "poster".
