l -19 recovered from minnesota lake

Fri Sep 16, 2005 10:38 pm

a 47 year old minnesota national guard l-19 was recovered august 13th under 40 feet of water. the pilot did not survive the crash & was recovered 2 weeks later. the plane is near intact, obviously protected by silt all these years. also recovered were the pilot's parachute, log book & headset. the amazing thing is after seeing a pic of it is that it's in near intact condition after being raised. a testimonial to the salvor's expertise due to the fragile condition of such a light bird after so many years submerged in the drink. best, tom
