Greetings Fellow WIXers! Now that winter has (finally!) let go of the Virginia Tidwater area--

Just a note to let you know about some great upcoming events at the Military Aviation Museum in Va. Beach!

April 30 - A Royal Wedding Reception - Celebrating the royal wedding in the UK.
Lots of Brit aircraft flight demos - Hurricane, Spitfire, Dragon Rapide etc.

May 7 - Flying Prom! The Virginia Symphony appears at the MAM. The P-51 and other warbirds take to the air while the VA symphony plays aviation related works. Fireworks at the close of the show.

May 21-22 Warbirds Over the Beach! The MAM's annual airshow - Flights by museum aircraft including the B-17 "Chuckie". Hundreds of reenactors! Paratroop drop from a C-47!
40's vintage entertainment and some very special guests:

2 original Doolittle Raiders - Dick Cole and Tom Griffin
P-51 Triple Ace Col. Bud Anderson
Enola Gay navigator Maj. "Dutch" Van Kirk
From the 101st Airborne - "Band of Brothers" Sgt. "Wild Bill" Guarnere

It's going to be a heckuva show! :D Hope to see you all there!

Thanks for the heads-up, Ed...truly a special collection of aircraft.

Unfortunately, a trip to VA isn't in the cards this year. Any chance some of the collection will be seen in God's countr...err...the upper midwest this July?

And while that is going on to the south in Suffolk I might drag out the mighty L 4 for a fly over of some cows in a pasture out near Franklin. Truly an unforgettable experience.

Seriously though we are lucky to have the museum here in VB.

Last I heard, there were over 300 reenactors going to be attending. It ought to be a LARGE time!
I'm also told from a highly placed source that we're assured that "Chuckie" will be back from her facelift :)
with her new chin turret, ball turret and right waist all newly installed.

I'm looking forward to seeing you all there! If you want to find me, just look for a bright yellow shirt that says
"Ground Crew" on the back - and an old guy with a slightly dull, confused look on his face. (Come to think of it, that sort of described most of my colleagues out there as well as me!! Just look for all of the above and a name tag that says "Ed". 8)

Shouldn't reenactors be skinny and between 18 and 30 years old?

Hiya Ed...certainly going to make it over to your show! Am hoping that somehow we can get the Lynchburg show to be on different weekends than yours in the future  I know a lot of people are looking forward to The Blues being here for the first time in many a years! Would have been a grand show if we could have scheduled it right to bring your collection over here...keeping my fingers crossed for next year and beyond :P

Might be a little late in noticing this, but it looks like Chuckie has the chin and ball turrets installed:

Garth...VaBeachEd...or anybody that is there...can you please post all the pictures that you have when you have time? I so badly wanted to make it...but...boss has other plans for me  Dammitall! Very aware of how many people are out of a job right now and do not mean any disrespect...but...airshows should always take precedence, especially one as cool and close as the Battle Over the Beach!

That actually isn't my picture, it's one I noticed out on Airfighters.net. I remembered the discussion from when Chuckie went to VA Beach that she was faster than other G-model Forts because she lacked turrets. I saw the pic, thought "hey, that looks like Chuckie ... but where'd the turrets come from all of a sudden?" and figured I'd put it out here.

I did take about 150 pictures at Andrews AFB/JSOH yesterday. Unfortunately, they were taken with my iPhone (got to FedEx Field and realized that I hadn't brought my camera. Wasn't prepared to drive the hour home and the hour back ...) and are of pretty poor quality.

Great stuff! I visited the facility a mere three years ago, and it's amazing to see how much the collection has grown just since then!
