This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Ok, so this is partly a way to see if my new uploading capabilities work. I'll probably stick with my usual host, but I thought I'd give it a shot.
I was able to attend the airshow today in Burnet. Got there safely in the L-5 just in time for the pilot briefing, and flew for a few minutes during the show as part of the "trainers and liaisons" group.
Here was probably my favorite "spot" of the day. I think it's the first time I've actually seen a Bobcat up close!
I'll try to post some more photos later.

Yes, and flew. The P-40 was in also. I took a bunch of pictures around the ramp and am trying to get to the point of uploading them. The 3.5 hour trip from Burnet to Decatur takes something out of you!
I got to meet Ryan today. A very nice gentleman and handled a tricky crosswind quite well in the L-5. Ryan it was a pleasure to work with you!

It was a pleasure to meet you, to eagle21!
Here are some more pictures. Truthfully, I think I'll be sticking to my Picasa web album for most of my photos.

The trainers and liaisons row. I think I was the only "L-bird' brave enough to come out for the weather. The winds were truthfully howling.

It wouldn't be right to not include the hosts' beautiful C-47.

It didn't turn out as well as I would've liked, but I thought this was going to be a great shot with the similar tails

This is what it looks like to be in queue for takeoff! The only major irritation I had today was that my helmet camera let me down. I should've double checked it, but didn't want to let it interfere with the flying. Well, I messed something up and missed the flight portion that I was hoping to get. It would've been awesome if it had taken.
More later.

Another "Bamboo Bomber" shot

My ride - from the
Alamo Liaison Squadron
The P-40

As promised, the Yellow Rose got airborne, with a really cool crew. Calvin Allen is one of the pilots checked out for the crew, and he is part of an organization called ACE Camp that I first heard about in 1999 for youngsters. I went to the ACE Camp in Dallas that year, and have tried to help them out in some way ever since I've finally got to the point where I was flying on a consistent basis for hire. I am grateful for advice he's given me, as well as for his work to help inspire young people interested in aviation.

The Bearcat warming up

This shot is just for Nathan here on WIX.
Oh my! I just realized that we didn't have a single Mustang there at the show, or a T-6 for that matter, if I remember correctly. Most odd with all of 'em around.

A Bearcat shot

Another Yellow Rose shot

One more Bearcat shot

And another for good measure.

I think that sometimes we put too much emphasis on the pilots, and forget that the maintainers, mechanics, and other support crews are all part of the team, and without them, a lot of us pilots wouldn't be flying. Here's a bit THANK YOU to the ground crews.

A pretty little black plane was there, too!
It's probably time for me to retire, so more posts will have to wait.

Excellent pics Ryan, thank you! The Burnet bunch is a semi-regular haunt of mine, always great to see the place hopping. Don't forget Kingsbury on the 7th.

Was 'The Bear' there? Not Howard's Bearcat, the guy with the long beard who works on the P-40 that looks like he should be a member of ZZ Top with that long beard of his? He usually does this show...

May 7th? I don't know that I can break free from students, but I may try and get one to go there with me for lunch.
