That second photo is pretty surreal.

TEXAS RAIDERS is going to be flying this Saturday, June 11 and June 25th at Hooks Airport in Spring, Texas.

We will be operating out of the Flight Base Operator (East) side of the airport for tours followed by revenue rides.

If there is enough interest we are going to have a revenue ride available on July 4th out of Hobby Airport.

July 23 should see us in Brenham, Tx. for a one day only visit with rides available. (I will personally be guarding the poodle skirt girls in the restaurant! 8) )

August 8-13th is going to find TEXAS RAIDERS in Colorado Springs for the 381st Bomb Group (H) re-union.

It's a great life if you don't weaken_ or if something doesn't break!

Had lunch at the Brenham airport diner yesterday with Cansco 42. They have several posters advertising your visit and each table has a small placard on it.

NOTICE:
Revenue rides are cancelled this Saturday June 25th, 2011 at Hooks.

#1 Engine has been variously smoking, appearing to run rich, and consuming excessive amounts of oil.
In the course of inspecting Engine #1 some wide compression differentials were discovered during the "leak down tests."
As a result the Maintenance Officer decided to change four of the cylinders.
This turned out to be a wise decision as the top rings on two of the cylinders were showing some signs of "distress" to put it mildly.
(I hope to have pictures of them soon.)

The new cylinders are on, but the Maintenance Team has not finished the plumbing and made the Test Flight and we are not inclined to rush it.
While Sandy has called all the folks with reservations I wanted to announce it here as well in case anyone was planning to go fence-spotting or do a "walk-up" and purchase a ride.

The inspection of the fuel system turned out negative- which is positive!
By which I mean they did not find anything wrong.

Trying to Keep 'em Flying

Well- It's been a busy week at Hangar Woebegone...
It turns out we DID need four cylinders on Engine #1
BUT it also turns out the supercharger impeller was munched too. Sections of it were revealed to be missing when someone peeked into the intake manifold hole!
You might notice something missing in the photos of the bomber. ??? The propellor has been removed to facilitate swapping engine.

Chuck Conway in front of the rebuilt engine breaking the news to the Wing Leader scant seconds before a grown man starts crying- "Say it ain't sooooo!"

OBER-
Yes we did. The Wing bought one that was rebuilt and yellow-tagged sometime in 2001- BLESS THEIR HEARTS!
I can't remember the name of the company that rebuilt it, but they were out of Arkansas.

NOW we are going to be having the core rebuilt.
So kids- save your aluminum cans and send those dollars into CAF Midland earmarked for the TEXAS RAIDERS aircraft account.

Keep 'em Flying SAFELY-

But at least the core has 4 shiny new jugs on it! Seriously though, that kinda sucks to do all that work to swap those jugs and now the engine has to come off anyway... ouch.
