I would like to see another museum get this rare B-25C complete with the lower turret and put it back together to be displayed
inside, than to see it continue to rot outside. Nose section inside sitting dirt as a lake bottom display. Rear fuselage in restoration getting paint over spray on it! What a waste of a good display plane that should be treated with more respect than its getting. I spent almost two years getting it read to go inside to be preserved from further decline, just to have it treated this way! Just my two cents worth.

While I agree that this aircraft deserves a better home in many respects, I am uncertain what more could be done for her. There isn't a single piece of the airframe that isn't riddled with corrosion like it were Swiss cheese. Any restoration, other than conservation, would essentially throw away the vast bulk of the airframe. The Southern Museum of Flight are doing the best they can for the most part, but I hate seeing the center section sitting outside in the elements.

I also agree with you on the fact that they may not know what to do with it. As you point out with the corrosion that bad, if you replace everything, you will be destroying alot of history.

I know the plane is like Swiss cheese, but it should be all together inside somewhere being preserved not outside. The rear section is in a room with a make do paint booth and is getting paint on it.

I imagine that they are strapped for cash like everyone else. would it be possible for them to create a restoration scene within the museum and use the center section as the focus of the display, maybe actually perform a preservation on the section under roof. They have plenty of room. Hang a couple of the smaller airframes from the ceiling, poof, ya got plenty of room. But......who am I? management will do what the bean counters tell them to do and nothing more. I'd love to snatch that Invader airframe they have tucked on the back lot....oh wait, WhereTF would I put it.......I have no beans.

When they first got the plane they had the money, it went to other dioramas in the south hall I was told.
