Nathan is going to have a heartattack. Wish this one would be based out of Geneseo.

The marking scheme is Pearl Harbor I think, but which pilot is #160 associated with? Welch? There were several others too. There was a great article about these pilots at Pearl Harbor in one of the magazines, but CRS has prevented me from remembering which. This aircraft was recovered in Russia I think (lend-lease). Owned by Rod Lewis. Hope it eventually makes a visit to Chino!
I believe that bird 160 belonged to Lt.Welch.The bird is actually AK295 an RAF contract bird that went to 41 OTU in england and then given to the russians. This bird was written off in an accident in murmansk.Jerry yeagan got it out of russia and I got it from him for a customer who after some years sold it on to Lewis.

Yep and I pee'd my pants too! Finally someone honoring Welch! Even if the markings are still in question. It's good enough for me at the moment! :D

Well it looks lovely, but at the same time I think it's a shame that most of these ex-USSR airframes get painted up in all kinds of markings EXCEPT the Russian ones. Considering the importance of the Soviet war effort, the scale of thier casualties, and the fact that these airframes survive because of thier Soviet usage, it is somewhat disappointing to see (in the case of P40's) another Pearl Harbour, Flying Tigers, Aluetian Tigers etc scheme.

The only exception I can think of is the Hawker Hurricane AM274 being restored by JNE, which will be finished in it's original Soviet colours.

Please could we have more Soviet schemes??

Sorry to complain, I do like the paintjob on this latest P40, but at the same time I think it's a missed opportunity.

I agree about no USSR markings. However, I don't recall seeing a lot of Pearl Harbor or Aleutian Tiger marked P-40's. AVG/23rd FG P-40's? Yes, way toooo many.

I really hope when Flying Heritage Collection repaints their C they put it in it's previous Soviet scheme. That's probably one of the best possibilities out there.

Hey, Lewis already has a B-25 in Russian markings. If anyone might do it, I would think it might be him. On the other hand, I for one would rather see it in Pearl Harbor markings - chasing one of those Tora Zeroes instead of a P-51...

Here Here! Maybe Mr. Lewis will purchase TFC's P-40B and fly both Pearl Harbor P-40s against the Tora team! A kid can dream... 8)

Well you're quite right about there not being many other Pearl Harbor P40's, the Fighter Collection's example is the only other one I can think of. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's a kinda obvious choice, with three Tomahawks airworthy (TFC, FHC, Rod Lewis) it would be nice to have them in three different schemes, especially when this one has Russian history. Instead we've got duplication (the TFC scheme is identical aside from the buzz numbers) even though there are dozens of schemes to choose from and only 3 airworthy survivors. I guess seeing it from Mr.Lewis' point of view a) he's paying for it so can do what he likes and b) as an American it must be very difficult to resist the temptation to paint something up in Pearl Harbor colours when it fits.

As for Aleutian Tigers, I can think of three off the top of my head-the UK based P40M, and two stateside P40K's (one of which again has Soviet history.)

Well, when the Russians pay some of their Lend-Lease bill, then we can talk about Soviet paint schemes.

Sorry, but Pearl Harbor means more to me than most Soviet Battles.
