most of us know the indy delivered the bomb trigger or uranium to tinian island for the bomb drop on hiroshima, & her tragic loss after completing the mission, but nothing is ever mentioned of her combat history prior to those 2 historic events. can anybody fill in the blanks??

The Indy was one of the most beautiful ships built by and for the US navy and its story is such a tragic loss. I have been to the south pacific and being on the equator, unless you have been there, you really have no idea how intense the sun is.between being in the water and roasted by the sun.what a nightmare.I have dark skin and have never been sunburned like then.I glowed in the dark.I hang out here in the local desert and its mild in comparison.anyone lost at sea there would be toast in 2 days.I'm Amazed by the story of Eddie Richenbacher being at sea for more than 20 days.he had to be roasted.the sun on the equator is intense and he was an older man by then.but a true tough guy.one of my heros
