I don't know my Corsair airframes well, but is this a different airframe that's been built up and painted like the crashed airframe?
Or, is this the actual rebuilt crashed airframe?
Either way, looks beautiful.
Here's the original back in '02.
Hi Randy... the registration is the same as the aircraft which Joe and Jim Tobul used to fly. There must surely be parts in there from her, but Jim has a large F4U-4 parts cache, so I imagine a fair bit of that went into her too, as well as newly made material. Whatever the actuality, she is a fabulous aircraft, and we have the prospect of potentially at least one more coming down the pike.
Cheers,
Richard
Finally I was able to make it down to WestPac this week after a year in Colorado. I hadn't had a chance to see them since they had moved to Colorado Springs. Alan and Bill chatted a bit with me about this restoration. There are definitely significant parts from the original airframe but there was also quite a cache of parts involved in this restoration. As was also already mentioned a good pile of parts leftover for a potential second restoration.
Aside from the brilliant work being done at that shop I can also tell you that you are unlikely to meet a classier group of guys and gals than those run this shop.
