I couldnt sleep tonight ,so I watched the Military channel.They had a show covering the battle of the Phillipine sea and the Marianas turkey shoot,its amazing how US aircraft production,ship production and pilot training burried the Japanese.they didnt stand a chance.They gave it all they could and we buried them.its amazing how much we produced in just under 5 yrs.i dont think we could do it now.all of our corporations are in China and Mexico.it was a truely amazing period in our history.

Last nite I was watching WW2 in color which I find to be a good show. Among other things they spoke of the Battle of the Coral Sea. Just wondering if the USS Lexington has ever been located on the sea bottom?

I don't think anyone had gone down to see her.

I would be willing to bet that between errors in navigation and the planing effect as she sank that the Lex is miles from her reported position. I hope someone can locate and film her. My father in law served on her pre war and remembered her as his favorite ship. He told me that where the smoke stacks came up through the island there was dead space that petty officers controlled and used for a continous poker game.

The position I listed is supposed to be that of her resting place. The position reported where she sank is indeed several miles off from this one. The water depth at that point is over 15,000 feet.

Do you mean to say that the Lexington's resting place has been found, even if not yet photographed?

My guess is that the coordinates are where she was last seen on the surface, not where she settled. Considering that the Yorktown took some serious looking, I think finding the Lexington would be a task. I would rather see the money spent on searching again for the Japanese carriers at Midway.

No, I said that the position listed was SUPPOSED TO BE her resting place. To my knowledge, that has not been confirmed by a actual ROV dive. I think this location was determined based on the currents, depth, etc. Her location when she sank is listed as 15°20′S 155°30′E .

I don't think there's any activity going on to find her.
