"...W sat in the cockpit and made airplane noises..." now that's funny right there I don't care who ya are The reason I chuckle is that is exactly what I did after Richard and I wrenched that friggin heavy canopy open! I posted an action shot in the introduction page here on WIX from a couple of hours of hard work...don't know how to get that picture into this thread. We sure had a lot of fun that day!

The cool thing is it still smells like fuel inside. The radials are still dripping oil once in a while as well. Plans are under way to clean the insiddde up this spring and have it open for tours

Nice to see the C-97 getting attention. I've always had a soft spot for that one. On my last visit in summer 2009 it was looking pretty good, especially considering the weather it has to sit out in. It would be great to see her cleaned up and open for tours. Along with what's being done with the B-17 and C-47 it sounds like there are some great things happening down there and I need to make time for another visit.

Thanks guys. The thing to remember is that we are fighting many up hill battles. There is s museum that was once active, but due to funding issues was pretty silent for along time. Then some of the members are older and are not into new avenues of advertising like facebook and the internet. Then we have funding, building situations, weather, and aircraft condition. I won't kid you guys. It is a fight on many fronts. But it is one that we insist on fighting so that this museum not only continues on, but improves. Our goal is to see the planes come inside eventually. Is it a big goal? Yes. But one that needs to be done.
We would love to have as many of you that are interested come out. If you drop me a PM ahead of time I will make everyeffort to be there and get the C-97 and some of the others open for you for sort of a behind the scenes look.

Chris, I doubt you'll get the smell out. The last KC-97 I was inside was the one at Pima Co. and it smelled just like the inside of the last one I flew 20 years before. It's not just fuel but the odor of the red hydraulic fluid the airplane and A/R system used blended in with the JP-4 odor. Brought back some memories......they all smelled like that.
