The "Wonder Bread" dots came courtesy of a bored Hotshot crew, and I believe this happened in Silver City, NM. The story was told to me by Cap'n Mike Lynn, former pilot of 121 and currently Lead Bravo 5. I wish I could remember the details, but we were laughing too hard and I don't remember. I do know that Duane and Gene of HP weren't amused.

Maybe if Larry Kraus is around, he could fill you in on the rest of the story.

Cheers!
Tom

Django, here is a list of Privateer nose art that Hal Olson can remember that he did while on Tinian 1944-46.
There may be more but I am pretty sure that these forty-one are his. I to hope that Hal Olson will be able to paint some nose art on the NMNA's Privateer.

Hi there,

I'm from the Netherlands. Last year my parent bought a house built in 1914 and when we were cleaning it we found a paper with a plane on it. Also we've got papers that say some German Wehrmacht officers were in our house.

This is the paper we found:

Anyone knows what this is?

Welcome to WIX.

As stated in the information on the bottom of the drawing, it is a Consolidated PB4Y-2 Privateer. A Naval patrol version of the famous B-24 Liberator bomber.

TAdan, maybe he's a newby and is actually interested in what the poster is?

Ivissecher, it's part of a WW2 British Royal Observer Corps series of aircraft recognition silhouette posters(#565) authorized by the Ministry of Aircraft Production(M.A.P.) when they asked Peter Masefield(later of Beagle aircraft??) to organize the Directorate of Aircraft Recognition Materials(A.R. Mat.) in January 1942. The poster would be from some point in time after that when the
PB4Y-2 would come into service.

An article here on starting page 12, with above info in the middle of page 14....

I hope this is the answer you were looking for.

EDIT... A webpage, Aircraft Recognition Museum ..

Once again airnutz you amaze me. Those links to the Aircraft Recognition Museum were great. I had a collection of those things (books, models, and playing cards) from my days in the CAP and the Navy. That reminded me of those adolescent days on a Sunday afternoon when I would sit on the roof of our house in Chamblee, GA and spot aircraft. Thanks again for the links.

For you guys that like tracking former Coast Guard planes. Our CG aircraft history researcher put this together for some PB4Y-1's.

He also mentioned there are 3 former CG PB-1's (B-17's) still around flying. I knew of the one here in Michigan...didn't know about the others. I'll try to find out which ones.

Dunno, he never replied. I had a nightmare that he was asking us what a bomber was and we failed him.
I'm glad the links were enjoyed, those folks at the museum have really presented the history commendably well.

Thanks guys for the answer! Especially airnutz, you know a lot ;)

I also asked this to a museum in our region (Zeeland, The Netherlands) (http://www.wingstovictory.nl/)

They told me that that plane never flied here in the Netherlands. But why was this poster in our house then?
