We had the 1918 Curtiss JN-4H "Hisso" Jenny there. To bad we couldn't fly her (next weekend for an airmail reenactment in Petaluma, California) as there is no grass surface on North Island. Good job by the "Jenny Crew" too. Thanks guys and owner Frank Schelling for making it all a great success.

The highlight for me was seeing (and photographing) the OX-5 powered 1911 Curtiss Triad replica step taxing on the water three days in a row. And yes, it did fly one short hop about ten feet in the air.

To end the weekend with a nice treat, thanks to Taigh for letting me ride home to Stocton (a three hour flight) in the Lockheed PV-2D Harpoon.

Nice shots, Right outside my old hanger. HC-3 was in the left part of the hanger. Also a good shot of the H-60 that HC-3 started flying after the H-46. Still wish it was HC-3 instead of HSC-3.

I'm sort of puzzled as to why someone didn't approach the local Transit Authority about running a shuttle service from outlying 'Park and Plunder' lots directly into the show site. Greater Seattle has run shuttle buses for the raceday crowds @ the SEAFAIR Hydroplane Races for a couple of decades, and the crowd is usually right around 100,000 people for a one day event. The very limited parking in the City Park adjacent to the race course is for volunteers and workers @ the race site. The busses run on about a 15 minute schedule for a couple of bucks and do round trips to and from the same P&R lots, just remember what the head sign reads when you get on, and get on that bus to go home. It cuts way down on the after event swirling Merry-Go-round of everyone trying to leave from the same place @ the same time.

As lousy as the Moroners and Seahacks are, people take either the SOUNDER Train, light Rail, or METRO or SOUND TRANSIT to within two blocks of either SAFECO or QWEST Fields because you better bring serious bucks to park in a lot within blocks of either stadium, plus you can have several 'oat sodas' and not worry about getting pulled over for a DWI (around $5,000.00 with all costs figured in)and the City, County, and State all watch very carefully for drinkers. So it would make sense to do the same for a known big draw one day event and limit the amount of rancour and anger and frustration that big events always seem to cause.

Having been in San Diego on active duty...and a bit familiar with the local Coronado HOA and their antics. I'm wondering if there were some shennanigans with traffic control etc. there was also an apparent issue with the contractors who run the bridge (according to the radio guys doing the webcast) They refused to move the barriers and permit 3 inbound lanes......keeping it to only two and creating a bottleneck.

The Coronado HOA has been trying to get NASNI closed down for years. They don't like all those evil icky airplanes and the traffic! <swoons>

Wish i coulda come to this, once in a lifetime deal as I am sure none of us will be around for the next aniversary. It's not paint but paint removal. She is just bare metal with a quick and dirty star and bar. She will be all over non specular sea blue when painted, sometime soon I hope.
