If you were able to fly a plane during ww2, which one would you choose? It can be a fighter, bomber, transport, trainer etc.....

I bet flying a recon Spitfire would be pretty spectacular.

Mosquito hand down.

The sheer versatility of the airframe and ability to run laps around most front line fighters. Not to mention just the buzz of the twin merlins,

I'd love the chance to fly (or even just ride) in one in my lifetime.

When I am flying the L 4 I always look down and wonder how it would feel to have Germans firing at me as I hit 70 mph on a good day. Those guys flying them had some real guts.

But if I had my choice of any plane it would be the C 46 in China because I would love to see what my dad experienced when he was flying. Actually I would like to go the full route. PT 19, BT 15, AT 17 then on to the C 46.

N3N - just for Jeff... as an instructor. Or a T-6 or Stearman. L-5 in a Liaison Squadron would be second choice - maybe on Okinawa with my friend.

razorback. Hands down. After that the Mosquito for a twin engine airplane. And lastly a pby. Slow and easy, a fat dumb target, but I love that airplane.

I would fly the:

de Havilland DH98 Mosquito

I think the Mossie is one of the most beautiful of the era, and the missions it was involved in suite my personality. I like how it was so fast that it was hard for fighters to catch. I also like the redundancy of the twin engine arrangement; that would definitely give me a greater sense of security over enemy territory.

Peace,

David M
