Mike Geren's F8F was owned by Mike and he solicited Ron to buy into it when there was a downturn at TWA in 1970. Mike owned N5005 with Ron in late 1970. Ron Reynolds was the sole owner of another Bearcat that he sold and it became Jack Sliker's #4.

You TWA guys are all the same, aren't you Chris.........always looking out for each other. 8)

That's interesting, though. I knew that Ron had 'owned' both Bearcats, as he and Mike had come up with a marketing plan for sponsorship of both of them....N5005 to race in the 'Silver', with plans to modify the plane he sold to Sliker as a "Gold" racer.

To talk to Ron about it, he had bought both Bearcats and brought Mike on as his partner. Oh well....40 years and the memory starts to fade, I guess.

Thank you sir for the info and you have the first sale of your book put me down for one ,however the reason for the DC 7 was to make the logo large enough to be seen in the stands (Clay and Allen Paulson came up with the idea for Super Snoopy ) Bill Woodard ,Clay Lacy and Allen Paulson came up it and I was in the room at the time dad wanted a Electra but Clay and Allen argued that a Turbine was not fair so they went for the DC 7 (Dad wanted to win) this was in my dads office at Omni and I was in the room at the time ask Clay his office was just down the hall from dads.Watching the DC 7 round the Pylons was a thing to see. Old guys, can't remember anything!
Ron told me about 15 years ago that he had the dark blue one and didn't need another. He set up the deal for the metallic blue one and Mike bought it, then Mike lost his Captain bid in Kansas City. Mike came to Ron about being a partner and he reluctantly bought into it.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

In reality I wish Mike had never bought it and never raced it because he would still be here to shoot the bull with all of us...

My last post did not read as well as I hoped. The Idea of the DC 7 came up when my dad talked to Clay and Paul about running a Electra Turbine in the 1000 at that point they came up with the DC 7 as it was piston powered and fit within the rules of the 1000 the whole point was a Advertising stunt for OMNI so yes Clay and Allen came up with the DC 7 but the Idea came from Bill Woodard, Dad wrote the checks for the repaint and overhaul of Clay's Mustang,the sponsorship of Howie Keefe's Mustang and the rental of the DC 7 as well as fuel entry fees ect. Clay gave My family a ride from Van Nuys to the race in his Lear that day and a few days before I got to go atound the Pylons in the DC 7 as Clay did practice laps. Its the way its worded that didnt make sense to me. So did Clay come up with the Idea - No he provided a alternative to the Electra ,the Idea of running a Airliner around the Pylons was my dads and it was mainly for the size of the Advertising logo not the fuel cap. that was just a perk

As we are on the topic of credit were credit is due if you look at this photo ( http://www.mustangsmustangs.com/p-51/p5 ... 3-p05.html ) this is Clay Lacy's California airmotive sponsored p 51 do you see Snoopy no you dont. Snoopy also came from Bill Woodard ,Dad was buying me Penuts books and toys he thought the Snoopy Red Barron thing was cute so he adopted Snoopy as our mascot.In order to do this we had to get Charles Schulz's permission. so we flew dads Aero Commander 680 to Santa Rosa and he kindly gave dad permission and I got to meet him,our copyright info is filed in his archive in Santa Rosa California under the name WG Woodard ,Dad being in the position he was I was fortunate enough too meet many great pilots Bob Hoover,Howie Keefe,Clay Lacy,Erich Hartmann,Günther Rall,Art Scholl,and more then I can count. I have all the flying magazines with his Ad's and articles on reno and the 1000 if anyone needs them you can borrow them however you have to pay shipping both ways. WG Woodard passed in Feb 1972 and it would seem without anyone to say different people have claimed a few of dads ideas and inovations. Snoopy and Super Snoopy came from WG Woodard and its in Charles Schulz's archive look in 1970 copyrights.I am not trying to be rude But facts are facts ,no one told me second hand I was there

WOW! going around the pylons in a DC-7 must have been a rush.It was a rush to watch.you have a great history and must be proud of it.I know that I would. great story.

Brad sent me a teaser last nite a few pages of his work in progress and damm its good, a motor head must have, great detail well writen leaves you wanting more. I am no judge but I want a copy bad-now we get to wait Damm Damm

After much discussion, debate, and delay (not to mention a lot of Navy vs. Air Force bantering), Randy and I have decided to combine our half-finished, never-ending projects into a small, 4-page leaflet on Cavalier Mustangs that raced at Mojave.

Currently searching for a publisher...
