Restoration/maintenance technician needed Stockton, CA

I have an opening in our shop for a mechanic/restoration tech working full time. I am looking for someone with experience working on and restoring old aircraft. A&P/IA is a definite bonus but not necessarily required. Management experience/potential is also desired. Being able to fly a Beech 18 is also a bonus. We have a small shop (4 on the floor) with a close bunch of folks and a family type of work atmosphere. We primarily work on the Twin Beech/Beech 18 and other Warbirds and specialized projects. Our work covers everything from general maintenance to full ground up restoration. We also have a lot of fun activities going on throughout the year from airshows to our bomber camp.

Yeah it’s pretty cold here too. Supposed to dip down to 62 degrees tomorrow We have had some fog lately but it sure could be worse.

Yes we have a couple of vehicles to play with too. It’s not a motor pool but according to Ricky it's the motor puddle...I love that name!





Can't swing a dead cat around here without hitting a ton and a half Chevy or a Twin Beech. Not pictured is another turret truck, J-1 airfrield lighting truck and a 325 airfield crash truck all Chevy 1.5 tons.

Taigh- I would LOVE to apply: I am an A&P, have been instructing for three years, have 6 years as a KC-10A Crew Chief(not Flying), have my ASEL, and a desire to maintain warbirds. Just don't think I could make the break right this moment- I am 1 year into a house purchase, and if I sell in less than 3, have to pay a BIG penalty to USG for my first time purchaser incentive... That and I can't afford to move at the moment!(I said I've been teaching A&P airframe for 3 years) But BOY do I wish I qualified & could go... I do have a WC-51 which, when I finsh, would be a nice stablemate to those others...Right now it is in the middle of a FULL frame off restoration... Almost down to a bare frame- Then I start cleaning, repairing, repainting, etc... Till one day soon, I have a brand new 70 year old truck... I am shooting for prior to Oct 2012- it's 70th birthday month...

Hey Scott,

That is a nice straight looking Weapons Carrier. You sure do see a lot of those on the airfields in all corners of the world.

We have a 1942 WC-53 Carryall project that must have been popular in the 1960's as it presently has orange paint and flower stickers . Under the paint I found 8th Air Force markings. I have to wonder if it came back from England after VE day when the 8th was on their way to the Pacific.

Gotta love the 3/4 ton Dodges!

As to mine, it is pretty straight- Thanks! Bubba had a field day adding big bumpers, a tow setup, etc at various times, but I always believe in doing a job right, so I am taking it to bare frame... My main slowdown has been setting up the shop at the same time- had to build a compressor room, etc, & get the garage fixed up. Now I am back to working on the truck more than the shop...





Wish I was out your way, or could afford the move- I'd be driving this to work once it was finished... lol...

I told them EXACTLY what I was putting on it! A Chevy Luv pickup... lol.. No- I did say what it was, and they were satisfied. That model car carrier is rated for just about what a fully equipped WC-51 weighs- and that sure aint fully equipped, so it makes the weight ok. And it fit just about perfectly... The hard part was coming around to decide to use a U-haul: I went through at least 10 brokers trying to find one who would haul a non-running truck, which is stuck in gear(clutch works), and with no brakes. First i ALWYS got a YES- then it turned to "No" or "Call back". I had one company jack their estimate from $1,195 to $4,695! I complained, told them it was NOT a TANK, but an army pickup, and they came back down. But they jerked me around, so I gave up on them. Finally found a guy in Arizona coming north- I paid for the U-haul, and he picked it, and the truck, up in Arizona, and met me in Indianapolis, where we transferred the teailer over to my friend's F-150... The driver had towed with an F-350 dually, and was fine. We shifted the trailer to the F-150, and the bumper went DOWN- about 1" clearance... BEING an A&P and pilot, I IMMEDIATELY realized this was a Weight & Balance issue: we rolled the truck back about 12", and the bumper came right back where it belonged. So we secured it in position & got her home in no time. The only problem I got from U-haul was when I used an Explorer to run it the mile or so from home to the local U-Haul: I got yelled at for using an Explorer!(Could have used the Sebring convertible, I guess, if it made them happy...) Apparently they don't allow you to tow with an Explorer for some reason. Oh Well... All the estimates came in around $1,295. I think that is what I ended up spending doing it myself, so I was happy.

I kept getting denied because the M-151 was not in their book so I finnally called the day before to haul a Honda Del Sol (my wifes car and about the same weight)
