I would venture a guess that this is Kermit Weeks' bird when it was owned by David Tallichet. As far as time, you are probably looking somewhere in the mid-1980s at Chino.

In the final chapter of J.K. Havener's "The Martin B-26 Marauder", he talks about this restoration. At that point, the pictures seem to indicate the plane was in NMF, which is consistent with the pic above. The plane was farther along in January 1988, when the author visited, having it's engines hung and zero-timed, so this had to be prior to that date.

This picture could not be any earlier than the early 1970s as the style street light attached to the telephone poles was not widely available prior to the 70s. Tallichet recovered the birds from Canada in 1971.

I took this very similar photo of it sometime between 1978 and 1981...

I agree with the above, that it is Tallichet's and probably taken at Chino. I visited the plane at Chino in about '84 or '85, and then it was inside his main hangar. Somewhere in my vast archives, I have pictures that I took of it then, but I don't have them handy at the moment. I'm guessing that after it got hangared, it probably stayed there and did not go back outside. With that information, I would have to say that picture was taken before about '84 or '85.

Is that a P-38 in the background just below the left wing tip of the B-26? It looks like the attach point for the left tail boom.

It also looks like there is a Helldiver behind the Marauder in the original pic. Anyone have any further info on that bird?

That was bought by Tallichet from Maloney/POF and then later sold to the Yanks Air Museum where it is being restored to airworthy condition, but will probably never fly.

Here is the complete history:

If you mean that it still carries the paint it wore from the factory then, yes, you would be wrong about that. It has not been repainted by Kermit since he acquired it from Tallichet but it was certainly stripped and repainted during the rebuild at Chino.

i dunno what i always thought that. i mean i get that it's nearly twenty year old paint. but even when it left MARC/YestAF/whatever it still looked bad. the colors were wrong. did they re-paint it the same scheme, which was light, an aleutian scheme, something like that?
